Hey whats up guys Im am new to the whole rotary thing but I hope to learn alot through this site and all of its members. I just picked up a 83 rx-7 for 200 bucks. It runs ok but has high miles(170,xxx). I was wondering if I should waste my time on fixing the motor up that is in there or buying another motor all together. Any advice that you guys and gals could give me would be great.

Thanks

David

Run it till it dies. I have 186k on my 2nd gen and it still runs fine, 12A motors tend to go the better part of forever.

Keep oil in it, don't overheat it.

Hey whats up how much would another rotary motor like that cost or would I be better of putting adifferent motor in it. I almost want to make a freak, 2300pound car+ Ford 302 SB=mid to low 11s with traction?

you can leave now if youre actually gonna put a piston motor in the car. just leave the car like it is, it should be reliable for a while

Well i really don't want to just drive it till it dies I would like to fix it up. I would alost like to turn it into a drift car. But I would like recomendations on a motor to put in it.

anything with rotors, you can do a turbo swap, you can turbo the 12a, you can sc the 12a, you can do a three rotor... possibilities are endless, just depends on what you can do and how much money you have

there is a link here in the 1st gen section in a thread pinned at the top with a link to the factory service manuals. the link is like 3 or 4 posts from the top

heres the link to the 85 factory service manual, the stuff should be the same just make sure youre looking at the 12a stuff http://www.wankel.net/~krwright/cars/rx7/85_manual.html

Do a TII swap into it, have the 12A rebuilt with a streeport and large tubo set up. Run atkins rotary super charger.

Just don't put a V8 in it, it hoses the handling and makes it just another sports car.

You can get low 11's out of a rotary easy enough.
