Dont tell me how tix it if its flooded, i know all of that. my problem is this, it cranks fine, but when the gas pedal is pressed, it wants to choke itself out. like it has too much gas. but if the gas pedal is floored, it is fine, will run like a champ. i took out the plugs, specificly the leading, covered in gas. replaced the distributor cap, which was worn badly. now should i go ahead and replace the rotor button and plug wires? do i need carborator work? any advise would be helpful.

j9fd3s 11-14-2002 12:52 PM

i would make sure the rest of the ignition is working fine, and then maybe start looking at fuel.

1. is the return line plugged?

2. sunk floats? it seems to be going around

3. bad accelerator pump?

same problem im dealing with now on a friends car..float are stuck cause the car sat for some years..

What about yours?

Racer X 11-14-2002 11:57 PM

Replace the rotor, plugs and wires. If that doesn't help then you might want to check your float to see if they are sticking

Turbo II 11-16-2002 01:17 AM

are 1st gens worse than 2nd?

Racer X 11-16-2002 03:00 AM

Some people(like me)like the first gens over the second gens thats why we spend so much on them

Hereonout 11-16-2002 09:58 AM

ok well it seems most of the response is the float, i figured it was the carb. but i was unsure. i have cleaned it a little with carb cleaner, but im thinking about trying to just get a new carb. oh and yes, its been sitting for maybe 4-8 months......float maybe?...ill try some things, but thanks for all the feedback. :bigthumg:

Hereonout 11-16-2002 10:10 AM

ok a lil background. the day i got it, monday, it ran fine, cranked right up, put gas in it, drove it around getting keys made, plugs, distributer cap, ect. anyways, runs fine the day i got it. tuesday, i crank to go to work, dont even get out of the driveway and it starts this ****. cant go anywhere unless its floored, jerks stalls runs like hell, but yet idles fine. now you say maybe the float is stuck, well i know nothing about a carb, but im learning, so how would i "unstuck" them?

Stripgear 11-16-2002 10:50 AM

Gasoline today is not like it used to be. It gums up very quickly. If your car sat for 8 months, the carb most likely needs to be pulled apart and cleaned.

You will must likely find sticky floats and gummed up air bleeds and jets.

If you guys let your cars sit very long, USE A FUEL STABILIZER! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Hereonout 11-16-2002 12:07 PM

how would i go about cleaning them, or do i just need to invest into a new carb? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

Stripgear 11-16-2002 07:29 PM

If it is the carb, it will need to be completely diassembled, cleaned and put back together. You will need a carb kit from an auto parts store, a shop manual, and if you have never rebuilt a carb before, the assistance of someone who has.

Turbo II 11-16-2002 11:07 PM

i think ill get a 1st gen one day, but a gsle

Hereonout 11-17-2002 01:11 AM

well thanks for all of the advise. ive found a carb rebuild kit for $20 out of victoriabritish.com, which i highly recommend anyone to check out, well worth it. sometime this week a friend and i will be disassembling the carb. if all else fails, then ill start over. thanks guy.

Turbo II 11-17-2002 01:50 AM

let us know how it goes. and welcome to nopistons

Hereonout 11-27-2002 12:02 PM

just rebuilt carb.....still having the same trouble....dont think the floats were stuck...but how would i know if the were....accelerator pump was fine, i replaced it though, but im still confused and getting a little angry.......advice all mighty?

Hereonout 11-27-2002 12:37 PM

still think im getting too much fuel...please need help before i have to take it to ex's dad https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

Hereonout 11-27-2002 02:25 PM

floats were not stuck. needles and jets are fine. should i move to the ignition, because i cannot find anything wrong with the carb to be honest, but hey, what do i know.

Hereonout 11-29-2002 10:34 PM

******* help me damnit before i just go out to the rx with a god damned gun.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

j9fd3s 11-30-2002 12:03 PM

damn that was the next choice! there is a solenoid in the carb to open the return line back ti the tank, its the 1 wire on the carb, does that work?

mike

Hereonout 12-01-2002 10:19 PM

damn thats prolly what it underneath the fuel feed and return line. its like a big nut looking thing with a wire. would that effect the.......holy ****, you may just be my saviour.....ill let u know if i love you or not when i get a new one buddy...thatnks for the help so far, get back to you.

Hereonout 12-03-2002 02:36 PM

well it tested good. another deadend. any more ideas man? im at a loss for words.

j9fd3s 12-03-2002 02:50 PM

yah i'm getting there too, has it changed at all?

mike

Hereonout 12-03-2002 03:29 PM

has what changed?....besides the fact that its now hard to get it to idle, but the battery is dying, so that may not help.

j9fd3s 12-03-2002 04:16 PM

maybe the alternator is bad?

mike

Hereonout 12-03-2002 05:38 PM

trailing ignitor?....causes the tach not to work?

j9fd3s 12-03-2002 05:40 PM

yes thats right the tach works off the trailing ignition

mike

Hereonout 12-03-2002 10:36 PM

can i switch it to the leading, and why would the tach stop working when the car started ******* up, because u can run a 7 without trailing at all with no problem.....?

Hereonout 12-03-2002 10:37 PM

ive seen it been done on 5 rx7s stock.

Racer X 12-03-2002 10:54 PM

You need both trailing and leading to make a 7 run properly.

Hereonout 12-03-2002 10:58 PM

ive never seen my friend run trailing on his rx7, but his were '86, '87, & '89. But once it started ******* up i checked the timing, and it was firing then, i used the trailing and leading wires to adjust the timing, even though it was still fucked up afterwards....so am i running in circles here because im getting conflicting answers from people..... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

Racer X 12-03-2002 11:14 PM

Is that your 7 in the avatar?Looks nice. :yum:

Hereonout 12-03-2002 11:17 PM

Racer X 12-03-2002 11:43 PM

No prob.Me and mike love first gens anyways. They are fun cars too own.I should have bought one sooner then I did.Oh well I own one now and thats all that matters

Hereonout 12-03-2002 11:46 PM

been wanting one for years. loved this car for one day, and this **** started overnight, why me?

Racer X 12-03-2002 11:51 PM

Thats the way I was looking at it too at first.Once you understand the cars systems they aren't so bad to understand tho.I suggest a haynes manual.Mine is my best friend other than the nopiston guys here. :bigok:

Hereonout 12-03-2002 11:54 PM
