Hi
thanks for looking at this post and tying to help me out. Ok here the thing my nabor has 2 1st gen rx7's in his back yard and said he'd sell me them for 25.00 for both wow what a deal but 1 is 2 badly rusted destroyed and the other is still in bad shape but i turned the engine over and it has compression but it needs new coils and a radiator so i got brand new ones for it. ok so than it needs a distributer so i buy one from an 1985 will it work with the 1979 the one from the 1985 looks totaly differance and has 2 small back boxes on the side of it and the origenal one dosenot the origenal one is just missing the rotor inside of the distributor but i have a new one from a 85 what do i need to do to put the one from the 85 into it can i just drop it in or what wireing do i need to proform.

The 79-80(SA)s had old school points type ignition whereas the FBs had electronic ignition. I know you can upgrade the points to electronic I am just not sure of the steps involved. It is not a bolt on and go job.
1 You can use the hot wire that used to go to the old coils.
2. Run a wire from the positive terminal of the lead igniter (on front of distributor) to the positive terminal of the leadcoil.
3. Run a second wire from the negative side of the leading igniter to the negative side of the leading coil. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the trail igniter and coil.
The trail igniter is the one on the alternator side of the distributor.
