Mine Did the same thing! I have a $120.00 Timming Light.
Instead of hooking it up towards the Spark Plugs.
Hook it up to the wires comming out of the Disti instead.
Works everytime unless your wires are worn out as stated above.
Could also be CrossTriggering? But I doupt it.

jumping timing marker is a good sighn of miss fire. give it a good tune up
wires, plugs , the works. most of the time trail plugs are rock solid not much jumping. Leads can be a little jumpy just depends of mileage and carb set up.
but if everything is stock leads don't have to bet absolute perfect. also remember to follow the manual set up about water temp wiring durning timing.
