have any of you remove the auto-return choke and replaced it with a manual one? mine dosent work anymore and i want to remove all the crap that goes with it if i can. this is on my 79' if that makes a difference.

Mine hasn't worked for a while but thats on the carb side not the auto return part. All is an electromagnet that holds i believe shouldn't be too hard to fix, but auto zone sells a manual choke replacement kit i looked into it awhile back but never did it, its like 20 or 30 bucks it replaces everything so you might need to make your own mount for it.

i like to set it up so i dont need the choke at all....



but



the choke IS manual, except that they hold the choke out with a magnet hooked to a temp sensor on the back of the water pump, so you dont leave it on all the time.



only failure ive ever had was the wires fall off that sensor
