I just unpacked my summer wheels/tires from winter storage, and found some strange white mold type substance on the polished lip of only one of the rims.

The wheels were stored in the garage, stacked on top of each other. The really strange thing is that its only on one wheel!

The mold is white in color, and it appears to be dispersed in small clusters around the lip. The spokes of the wheel are powder-coated and not affected. Maybe its oxidation or corrosion of the metal?

Does anyone have any idea what this is, why its there, how to remove it, and how to prevent it from coming back?

Thanks,

-a

it sounds like normal oxidation of bare aluminum. Why it's ony on 1 wheel I don't know. When I opened my hood after winter storage, all my polished aluminum engine parts had the white "crap" on it. It comes off easy with a rag and some good metal polish.
