this is a repost from the second gen section but I thought you all might enjoy.





Ok I just got all my brake stuff for my 86' GXL...



I bought rebuild kits from mazdatrix for the front calipers (4 piston GXL models). This costed 30 dollars for both calipers as opposed to $150-386 a piece for remans or new calipers.



I bought the rebuild kits for the rear (1 piston all models) from mazdatrix too. This was also like 30 dollars as opposed to $75-170 a piece for remans or new calipers.



I found cross drilled and slotted Brembo rotors on ebay for $210+ $40 shipping. That is almost as cheap as some places selling stock. Stock kick *** don't get me wrong but this was too good to pass up.



Stainless steel DOT approved brakelines for $80 from mazdatrix.



Speed bleeders from www.speedbleeder.com for way too damn much money = $32



Ford heavy duty DOT 4.0 brake fluid. 2 big bottles enough for an entire flush/bleed.

May seem excessive but why mess around and half *** something as important as brakes? This is where I am starting with my junk yard ressurection. Safety before speed.



I will be posting my caliper rebuild here as soon as I can catch a break with the weather and not crash my DD for awhile...

Cool! Can you 'splain the SS lines and speedbleeders install? I'm sure many of us are interested but unfamiliar.

Right on man, good work. You're gonna be real happy with that setup.



Good idea rebuilding the calipers. It's easy, cheap, and pays off. Except the rears. Those suck to rebuild because of the e-brake. But still worth it.



I'll save you a rant on slotted/drilled rotors.

good luck with the rebuild im getting new pads rotors and lines waiting for most the parts in the mail but i never thought about rebuilding the calipers. im lookin foward to the writeup

Wanted to let you know that this is an easy job for anyone.



The lines require removing the old ones, which usually aren't too hard to get off and putting in the new lines. There's a connection on each end of the line and a clip to attach it to the inner fender.

The speedbleeders require removing the old bleeder screws and putting in the speedbleeders. I've never used em but heard good things.

Good ****. The rotors look nice although I'm not a fan of drilled rotors. Okay I lied, I HATE the thought of drilled rotors, but those are nice.

yes price is good, but brembo doens't makes xdrilled or slotted or combos of etiher for FC
