how big tires should go on an FD with 17x8 front and 17x9 rear that is lowered ?



any suggestions?

235/45/17 is OK up front. 255/40 or 265/40 in the back will be OK as well. Go for proper fitment first. Get it right and the looks will follow. When form follows function, it winds up looking the best IMO.

why would i want the rear tires to be thinner?

i have 225/45/17 and 255/40/17 rear on 17x8.5 and 17x9.5. fits fine i could have gone wider. the fronts rub when i hit a big bump

i know that usually the rear tires are thinner ......... i dont really know why? care to expelain?

What do you mean by thinner? The lower aspect ratio? If that's the case, then it's to keep the front and rear tires diameter close to each other.



I've seen 285's on the front of FD's and they didn't rub according to the owner. This was on a car built up for autoX. I forget the details of the wheel and tire combo that he used, but I do remember that he said that many people would tell him that was impossible. It's all in the wheel offset and the tire itself I guess.

no i meant, why go 40 in front and 35 at the back?

OK, here it goes - it's to keep the tire diameter close to the same in spite of the the tires being different widths.



235/45/17 and 265/40/17 are almost the same diameter.
