OK, I was trying to sift throught the fc wheel fit thread on the club, but it was a chore. I'm looking to get 17x8 all round. Tirerack reccomends a 40 offset and 215 wheel. REted was saying he thinks closer to 30 offset on 8 inch wide rims would work. I found some OK rims that are 17x8 35 offset. Maybe throw some 215 tires on there and be good.

What Im trying to say is that whe higher the offset the closer the back of the rim will be to the suspension, right? Stock is 16x7 40 offset so 17x8 with a 40 offset will hit? GAH! Someone school me.

im not good with these offset questions, but why bother with a 8" wheel and put a 215 tire?

just get a 7" wheel and have no problems, you can run 225's no problem then

rotarychainsaw 04-22-2005 08:49 PM

widers better! duh!

seriously though, I had 225s on 7 inch wides before and they kind of like hung over. i'd get 225 fo 8 inchers if I knew theyd fit.

i got 17x8 tantrums on my s5 , cant remember the offset but when im not so lazy ill go and take a rim off cause i got to do it anyways cause im droppin the new motor in the car, however there is a clearance issue with the 8 wide rims up frount if you run jic suspention i need 3mm spacers cause the tire and rim are about 1/8 from hittin the spring collar , o ya 215/45r17 is what i have but 235/40 can fit .

one last thing to give prospective on the size to fitment on a fc with the 8 wide rim. i run 1.5 deg camber in and the tire/rim is flush with the outside of the fender and 1/8" from the shock collar of the jic fla2 shock but had about 1 inch from the stock shock.

hope that helps

show me wheels you want and i will tell you if they fit. i know for a fact 17x8.5 +30 fits up front

rotarychainsaw 04-22-2005 09:07 PM

Well I havent really decided yet. I just want to know what offset will fit. 17x8 with a stock suspension for now. I think like 32 or lower but I dont know.

RETed 04-23-2005 07:20 AM

8", +35 is too close with stock suspension.

I've seen 8", +35 rims, and they all don't fit up front; spacers are needed.

I like to go at least with a +30 or less offset to make an 8" fit up front with a 225 wide tire.

If going with aftermarket coilovers, those with adjustable damper height (NOT spring height) can be spun upwards to clear rims with more offset - like 10mm more easily.

This is how people can claim 8" wide +40 can fit up front...

I have a set of 17x8 +35 Borbet type t on my car and the widest tire I can fit up front is a 225.

A 215 tire w/ +40 mm 8" will fit up front... A 225 tire is kinda close though.. If your dead set on a 225 get a 3mm spacer.. problem solved!
