I have my rear brake discs off, and I realized that they have some definite groves and ridges in them. The brake pads appear to have plenty of meat left on them. Should I get the rotors turned? Will it help my braking? If I don't change the pads at the same time, will that harm anything?



A place right by my house will do each one for $18 each.

 

Through the braking process a glaze will start to develop over the rotors, decreasing your braking ability. You could take this glaze off with some sandpaper, but its always just a good idea to get the rotors turned, not only to take that off, but to eliminate any minute warping that may have occured. As far as braking goes, it should improve its ability since it wont have a smooth glaze over the rotors, and maybe no more warping.

 

That makes sense. So it's ok to keep the current pads on there?

 

Well, depends on how good they look. If everything's apart you might as well replace them, but I'm kinda **** like that. If they look like they still got some meat on em, then you could keep em on if you're short on the moola. If your brakes are squeaking, then you should change em.

 

there's plenty meat on them. I'm just not sure of their age, as they were on there when I did the 5-lug swap. I guess I'll just stick with them for awhile.

while I've been driving, I haven't noticed any strange characteristics. The only reason they're off is so I can change my DTSS bushings.

 

How tough is that? You just have to take out your half shafts right? I need to do that soon as well.
