Buying Tires Soon

Are there no local shops that sell tires by you?
**** the internet for tires, I have yet to see a local shop that wont match the price of
a internet tire place. When you add in shipping, factor in waiting time, then you have to drag
them to a local tire shop to get them mounted anyhow, you might want a alighment as well,
plus you have to dispose of your old tires.
I have always went to my local tire shop armed with prices before I went and he gives me just about the same prices, most I ever payed was about $30 more but for $30, who the hell cares!
That was on a expensive set of tires by the way.
Plus when I pulled the car into my yard at work and got a flat a week later, he replaced the tire for free, he always fixes my flats for free.
When it came time for rims/tires I got prices about $400 higher then internet, I told them straight out, "why is it I can order then and have them shipped to my door for $400 cheaper?"
He asked me for the website, then he beat the websites price by $100-- THATS SERVICE! Included lugs/locks and offered to mount them on the car but I chose to do it myself anyhow.
Start relationships with local shops in your area, the service FAR exceeds a internet site.

I've always liked Falkens. Though I have yet to try them, the Azenis have recieved good reviews from local auto-x'ers. My buddy ran Kumho 712's and then Azenis on his S14 240SX. He shed a half second on the course with the Azenis. I have Pirelli P7000 supersports (came w/the car). They're okay, but there's better tires out there for the money. I get a little "rut" grabbing and they're not quite as sticky as I would like. The wet traction sucks (or is awesome, depends if you like driftin'). I would give the Azenis a try. I know I'm going to, as soon as I can afford some damn 18's.

Rob, I don't get a relationship with local shops, because I mount, balance, and align the tires/suspension myself. I work at a dealership, and there is no need to get up with tire stores. The local tire warehouse won't make any deals either. I'd rather not deal with all the clowns in Pensacola. Plus, not many people in town have good high performance tires.
Sinful, I have a friend who has the Azenis tires, and my biggest beef is that they don't last long at all, and more importantly, they are a nightmare to drive in the rain.

Okay, I talked to my buddy who had the Kumho's and Azenis. Here's the IM Transcript: (I'm Smokin240)
Smokin240: HEY
Buddy: hey, 'sup?
Smokin240: how did you like those Kumho's?
Buddy: The 712s?
Smokin240: yeah
Smokin240: did they wear fast?
Smokin240: and how was rain traction?
Buddy: yeah, the 712s were okay... They weren't superb, but you get a lot of bang for the buck with 'em. They didn't wear too fast at all - better than I was expecting. Overall grip, you could prolly do better, but not a whole lot better for the money unless you go with the Falkens, which WILL wear quicker. Still tho, if you go easy on 'em, they should do pretty well. I've got about 12k on the Falkens, and prolly 3 more in 'em.
Buddy: That's a lot better than I was expecting.
Smokin240: hmmmmmm
Smokin240: got a buddy lookin for tires....
Buddy: depending on what kind of wear you're looking to get out of them, the Falkens might be a better buy.
Buddy: .. what kind of car?
Smokin240: he's worried about wear and wet traction
Smokin240: FD
Buddy: hm... The Kumhos are very good in the wet until you get down to the wearbars, then they're a little freaky. The Azenis, surprisingly, are very good in standing water. They evacuate very nicely.
Buddy: Both are good on wet pavement (no standing water), but the Falkens have a lot more overall grip.
Smokin240: this guy is in florida... their "wet' is a lot wetter than ours.
Buddy: true... I don't think they're gonna' get a lot better than the Kumhos new for standing water stuff...
Buddy: Unless they go with something with a very open tread pattern, which will just suck *** in the dry.
Smokin240: right
Buddy: Might look at the new Yok too... The AVS-ES100... That's looking like it should be pretty good.
Smokin240: are they pricey?
Smokin240: yoko's typically are
Buddy: Little bit more than the 712
Buddy: Not too bad tho.
Smokin240: kool
Buddy: They're supposed to compete directly.
Smokin240: sounds good
Smokin240: I'm gonna tell him what you shared about the kumhos and azenis
