I made a half-assed radiator mount with some c-channel that bolts to the tow hook locations. I remember reading somewhere that the radiator can't be on metal, that is has to be isolated with rubber mounts or some kind of insulator, or something would corrode. Is this true? Or can I put it right into that c-channel and not worry about it?


I haven't done much to the car in years, I think it's about time to get the ball rolling again.

 

I don't know about corrosion. I mean lots of cars have the rad bolted to the rad support. I'd be more concerned with chafing. Maybe cut a sheet of rubber or some kind of thin cushioning material to fit between the rad and the channel?

 

Theoretically yes. Two different metals touching each other and some electrolyte between, lets say salt water, will corrode, as its basically galvanic battery.

In this case I would be rather concerned with mechanical stress on the radiator. Rubber mounts are must IMO.

 

I have a handful of old bicycle inner tubes, I'm thinking I could line the channel with that. It only makes contact at the end tanks, so I'm thinking it won't take much.
