Went to buy oil for an oil change and noticed 20W-50 4-stroke motorcycle oil by Havoline. I started thinking....20W-50 viscosity is what I need and motorcycles run harder and hotter vs. piston auto engines....and so does a rotary. I'm thinking that motorcycle oil might work as well or better. Any thoughts on this? Has anyone used motorcycle oil? Why or why WOULDN'T it be good? I'm just not tryin to screw my motor up with experiments. I'm auto savvy but far from a rotary specialist. Any feedback is appreciated.

Why are you using that heavy of oil anyways? During winter you want to run a lighter weight engineoil like 5w-30

I would NOT be inclined to run motorcycle oil in my rotary for the simple reason that motorcycle oil is formulated to lubricate both the engine AND the transmission and has somewhat different properties than a typical automotive oil. Also, I suspect it's fairly expensive.

I run Castrol 20W50 in mine. If I drove it in the winter, I would probably run a 10W30. I think it's more important to change it frequently than to try to find the best oil.
