I bought a 91 FC vert this weekend. The key was broken off in the lock when I purchased it, but we were able to drive it 40 miles home. When I got out to open the garage door, the car died. When I turned it off the key turned to the 'lock' position. Now I can't get it to turn back on, the wheels won't turn because the steering is locked, and the thing is about 2 feet from my garage sitting in dirt. :|

I'm really new to this - what's my best option? The ignition is screwy anyway, they've been using a screwdriver or something to start it in the past and it's beat up. Do I need to replace all of that? Will that fix the steering wheel lock as well?

Thanks!

I also had this problem but the difference is that my key just falls off while im driving. Since your sterring wheel is locked just turn your steering wheel to the left while trying to turn the ignition. Replacing those key ignitions are kind of expensive. I think mazdatrix has some for around $150 if Im not mistaken. Peace =]

Mine too! When I raced autocross I would start the car, take the key out, and put the key in the door pocket. Otherwise I'd be hunting it for awhile.

I agree with the advice, though. Otherwise I'd try calling a locksmith.
