12AT into 1300 FA3TS

Hey all! I'm new here and need some good ol' help with a project i'm planning. I've owned my RX-7 for a few months now and after a dissappointing dyno run, a mate and i have decided to build up an old school mazda and see if we can't make a tad more than the RX-7. We both really like the 1300 2 door and have found one to buy so now all we need is a motor. Unfortunately the laws in our state don't allow us to whack in a 13BT due to power to weight or some silly reason so we're going with a 12AT.



Basically i'm wondering if anyone has any good tips and pointers to help us with the conversion as nither of us know a whole heap about engines.

Where do you live? Power to weight restrictions? How can they prove that, make you dyno then weigh your car? Seems unreasonable.



Anyway, not alot of 12AT's here in the US, we never got them. Its just like boosting everything else, do a little searching around.

Hey mate I live in the ACT, Australia and nowadays here you can't put 13BT's into HEAPS of things. It's pretty damn stupid.

That sucks. At least you have alot of spare engines and parts though! How strict are the on modification? You can get as extreme with a 12A as you can with a 13B. ITB's+big turbo+EMS=happy fun time!!

Haha too true man! They're pretty strict on modded cars here. No NOS, New south wales P platers can't have turbo, supercharged or V8 cars, no neons, not to mention if you have an even slightly modded car you get pulled over all the time. Biggest probs for rotor fans here is noise tho... Damn their noise restrictions....

just wondering evan, did you ever manage to do the 12at transplant into the 1300? if so could you maybe provide some details of the build or photos? im buying a 1300 2 door in the next few weeks with a standard 12a already in it and plan on either replacing that engine with a stock 12at or +t the current engine in the car with s4 13bt parts. id really appreciate any help or just some info on what the car is like with that engine in it. i imagine a 160bhp+ 12at in a 1300 which only weighs 800kg would be a lot of fun =)
