ok i am about change my brakes i have done it before and it was hard as hell with out the right tool for the twist and push in at the same time so i need some help on where i can get the right tool. or how do yall do yalls brakes????????????????????????????????

I'm thinking it's called a disk brake caliper tool. I rented it from Autozone. Actually, you pay for it, then they refund your money when you bring it back, so it's kinda like a free rental. I think they call it a "loaner tool program."

 

are you talkin about the front or rear brakes? and do you have the 4 pistons front calipers or the single pistons. big difference.

 

just buy it they are only 10-20 bucks, its a little cube looking thing with some protrusions on it that go into the slots of the pistons. I wouldnt recomend trying to do it with needle nose like the repair manuals tell you to.

 

man... i hve done about 4 sets of rear brakes this year and have just used a pr of water pump pliers on the piston, you just need to be reeeeal careful about only grabbing metal and leaving the rubber boot alone. the piston retracts by turning it clockwise, (in my memory) you can easily turn the piston about a quarter turn or so each time you get hold of it... take it slow and easy.

guess i should have bought the damn special tool since it is so cheap, but that would require planning and forethought.....

 

the cube for the rear brakes can be bought @ Autozone for $6, if you wanna risk damaging the brake piston , rubber boot and spend twice as much time & energy tos ave 6 bucks yur crazy

if your doing front brakes and you have 4 piston calipers that tool can only be bought at Mazda.-0 Snapon also has a 4 piston tool but it way more expensive.-0
