Hey guys,



I currently have a Racing Beat and custom Holley (Weber power plates on the primaries) set up on my 6port 13b. I like the power it makes. Pulls like crazy but, there is the cutting out on hard left turns. It's driving me nuts when i go play in the canyons so...... Already have the cathedral floats, center pivot bolws and jet extensions.



Thinking about going weber now. Can any one point me to a good comparison thread or quickly tell me the merits of the IDA vs the DCOE carb set up? Or Side draft vs down draft?



Which makes more power? Are there pros and cons to each? And i guess even more important, do they make as much power as the Holley? I basically like to play in the so cal canyons. Not looking for a drag car or anything.



True Dual exhaust. Mild porting on the engine. (unfortunately by previous owner so i can not say exactly how much porting)

yeah, with the holley you just have to live with that.



here's my little list of pro's and cons, its not complete, i dont have a lot of experience with the weber, except for fondling it



holley: its 4 barrel, progressive, best suited for a street car, or a car with different primary and secondary ports, they come in a huge amount of sizes so that shouldnt be a problem. seems like they do still limit power a bit even when you get a gigantic one



weber: its a 2 barrel, best suited for an engine like a PP or something with the same port timing primary and secondary. very tunable, the same carb works, or can be made to work on any rotary combo you can think of. should be better in the corners. theres no choke, and no seperate primaries, so on the street its not gonna be as happy, in theory.

I would go with a demon carb..holley's require to much to get them adjusted just right. webber not bad but I have always used demon on all my v-8's and have never had a problem with them..and very easy to adjust and change out the jets. http://www.barrygrant.com/

The demon is just a massaged Holley.

i've done a good amount of carb shopping for a 4a-ge, and i prefer the side-draft IDAs, mainly because down the road you can switch over to a good ITB setup, and throttle response tends to be better. get a good IDA manifold and a weber and you'll be set!



btw - just for kicks sometime, look up Keihin slide carbs. MEAN stuffs.

i've been pricing out the ida efi stuff, and the carb is $500 new, and the efi TB is $368, the efi tb is bigger, they come in 48mm, 50mm, 55mm, and efi should offer better drivability on a big port engine (BP or PP)
