Ok before you flame this, hear me out. I currently work at Advance Auto, and dispite what many seem to believe, they are not the Microsoft of the Auto world when it comes to paychecks.
Currently i am driving my dads old '93 mustang. little over 90k on the odometer, perfect for my daily driver. I love my 7 to DEATH, but its going to cost me alot of cash to get it back to running, let alone road worthy.
I had planned on doing the RX7 over the winter, i still do, but i have a problem. I need a better car, and seeing this a co-worker has made me an offer thats not THAT bad of an idea.
A little info on the mustang: Some old lady babied it around, its mechanically sound if you dont count the fact that the radiator needs to be replaced. I work at AA, its not too bad lol. The car is clean, i have to admit i dont mind the car.
Now the offer. Knowing i need to improve my current car, my co-worker has offered me a running thunderchicken for 500.00. Heres the sweet spot:
Its turbocharged. The body is ****. So the idea is for 500.00 (prolly a lil more cuz id need the radiator and some odds) i can drop this motor into the stang and improve my already basic automobile.
The reason i post this is to get your thoughts on whether or not its worth it because the RX7 is going to take me a good amount of time, and my car is scaring the girls away when it takes 10 minutes to pass a gremlin....with bent rims : )

It seems to me that it's going to be quite awhile before you have a running 7. If you were to slightly prolong this time period, but have an awesome daily driver/backup car, go for it! Plus you'll get the added experience of swapping motors.

Yea thats my thoughts. Plus, it'll give me time to get used to a car with power so if something DID go wrong (say a accident, god forbid) it wont be the 7.
I'ma do it, its only going to cost me 70 for the radiator so ima pick that up today.

Those Ford turbo fours are pretty strong engines, lots of potential. Mustangs can also be made to handle better than you'd expect. Still the obvious limitations, but they are not as bad as their reputation IMO.

My dad overheard me talking bout this a few minutes ago and threw his own little say into this.
"So, your giving up on the RX7 eh?"
I proceeded to tell him hes ******* insane, i would never give up on the RX7. What he said next makes me the happiest person alive.
"Tell you what. Dont waste your money on the 'stang, save it for your down payment." (slight pause to enjoy my look of confusion). "Your going to need it in january. Keep your job and finances straight till january, and ill cosign on the FD."
!!!!!!!!! HES GOING TO COSIGN!!!!! I'm going to get my FD!!!!
