My best friend Matt has got me to do a single turbo conv. on his 94tt. I'm trying to find the best set up. I'v heard good things about the 35/40 set up. Plus he wants big power capable of at least low low 11's. Hopefull high 10's though. In turms of dino sheets what is the RWHP on a rx 3rd gen running high ten's.???? Anyway I'm not new to the world of turbo performance. I put a RPS single t-66 set up on my supra before i sold it. And I now run a 93 Tsi. But I am new to the world of the rotary. Let me tell you What matts car has on it now then you can go from thier. Its basicly bone stock"well not in the motor though" The motor has been redone recently By rotary performance in NC. 3mm apex, street port. With that being said that is it, other then a turbo time. I need to know everything ,, I mean "EVERYTHING" we need to do this set up Fuel/exuast/engin mang./ and anything more that is need to make a rx-7 stock "other then the built motor" Into a 450-550 rwhp beast. Also a quick tech ? I need to ask about. Keep in mind the motor was just biult. The car smokes bad at start up "really bad" but after a little it goes away but not totaly. If it idles for and long period of time the smokeing that had almost stopped seem to come back some untill you get on the gas again. What do you think? the car makes good boost but do you think it could still be the turbo seals? Thats what i'm thinking its is. Also I was rideing with him the other night and under low throddle some where around mid range the car bucked may 3-6 time really hard. It did this may 3 or 4 times then went away.We were both pretty freak when it happend. Any sugestuns. Remeber i'm new to the hole rotary thing. Also soon after the motor work was done to the car my friend was busted selling some "Green,Green" so the state took his car and he just got it back like 2 weeks ago. So it has been sitting up for like 1year2months. Please if any of you get a chance let me know what he needs"Everthing" for a kick *** 35/40 set up. He is trying to order it all at once. BTW I called a shop in ohio "rx-7 store" I think. Thats were I think we might be getting the stuff. Any of you guys know is that a good shop to deal with? If it was a supra I'd know where to send him. But this is deffintly a horse of another color. If I get or"we get" good result with his I might get a 3gen for my self in a year or so. THank very much for any info you give me

The gt3540 is the "hot" turbo right now, especially for a street/race setup. Has quick response for a single turbo and produces good top end power. On pump gas your gona be limited to how much boost you can run to maintain reliablity. So realistically if you have everything right your probably only gona want to run 15-18psi, which is going to put you in the 400rwhp-450rwhp range. Depending on the porting the motor currently has will effect it somewhat as well. Race fuel and higher boost is different all together, then i'd say yes 550rwhp is possible, but I haven't seen any dyno sheets for this turbo running higher than 14-15psi on anything but pump gas. I honestly wouldn't be too concerned unless this is going to be a pure race/drag car about anything over 450rwhp, keep in mind these cars are roughly 2700-2800lbs after modding out, after 400rwhp they are sick fast!!

Fuel management is probably the most important factor when trying to keep engines together while still being able to produce big power. Lean conditions on rotaries equal new engines, and quickly. There are several good setups out there, what I use and many others use is haltech. There is a good support group for the haltech, maps can be shared, and its very tunable. You'll need a high volume fuel pump and bigger injectors. I'm running 18psi with stock primaries and 1200cc secondaries on a cosmo fuel pump and hit about 90% duty cycle by redline. You'll see from the responses this post generates how many different variables there are when choosing fuel managment setups, this one works good for me.

Ignition is also a key factor. A good ignition setup is gona give you more power and a much smoother running car. Again there are many ways to go when choosing ignition setups, an easy way is to get a good ignition amp. Probably the best one is the hks twin power, defenitly made a huge difference on my car.

Now also don't forget your gona need an intercooler, clutch, and exhaust system. Its really just a matter of taste when deciding. If noise is a concern, then you might want to go with a high flow cat rather than a midpipe. Or something like the racing beat or m2 catback exhaust. If you guys are already in NC, i'd suggest talking with Brian at www.rotorsportsracing.com. He is full of good info and does very good work.
