Turbo Question
I really don't know much about turbos, except the basics on how they work. Before I got into 7's, I read how you could have a bigger turbo, that would allow more power, but takes longer to build up enough speed for the turbo to kick in. With a smaller turbo, it gets power fast, but maxes out sooner (is that what a waste gate is for? when the pressure gets too high?). So I see terms thrown around here, and try to decipher them. I also read where you can have a small turbo for low rpm's, and a larger one for when the smaller one maxes out. Is that what sequential turbo is? If so, why would single be better? If you're going to answer, please use basic terminology. Like I said, I don't know much about turbos.

hmm, that sounds like a good idea. have a mini turbo FAQ or definitions sticky for us NA guys that would like to go turbo. i know thats a few of the SCC magazines ive kept, it "expalined" what things were, in regards to turbos.

that's where I learned most of what I know about cars....and everything else...I've spent hours on www.howstuffworks.com ...and that's where I got my info on turbos from... and that's where I learned how rotaries work...I love that place :bigthumg:
A single turbo makes things a lot less complicated, less vacuum hoses, piping, heat, etc. A wastegate controls the boost, it is set to a certain psi, and opens up to relieve excess exhaust gases via another exhaust pipe, instead of going though the exhaust turbing.
I am not positive on how sequential works, so im gonna leave that up so someone else. Boost is regulated by the wastegate, a BOV releives boost when the throttle is let off. It prevents backpressure on the compressor turbine, which leads to failure of it.
another question: I read that if you have a smaller turbo, at higher speeds the exhaust gases move fast enough to overwhelm the small turbo, moving it too fast, and there is some kind of mechanism to release the pressure...what's that called? or am I way off?
