Ok I'm a long way away from upgrading my turbo, but I've been looking around, checking prices, ect. Well SR Motorsports Sells....

SR 1987-1991 Turbo Upgrade

Upgraded turbo for your 1987-91 Turbo II. This turbo has a larger compressor which flows 25% more air. Fully built with new parts. Bolts in exact like the stock turbo.
The price is $769. It says it "flows" 25% more air, does this mean you will reach full boost sooner, or does this mean that the maximum output (psi) is 25% higher? Would I be better going with a T04? Or a T04 kit from HKS? Keep in mind I'm new to turbos. I'm not looking to be putting out 500+ hp, I just want a car I car go beat up on the vettes with.

Please post some good links for place to buy turbos too. Thanks!

It just means that the turbo will flow 25% more CFM. So that should give you about 25% more HP. I believe that their upgrade is similar to what Turbonetics and MIC turbo would do. With alot of mods that turbo could probably push 300-350 HP at the flywheel.

Well I only want to have to buy 1 turbo, so do you think I'd just be better off going with a T04? I like the HKS kit, and the Blitz kit. Have you used either?

The HKS TO4 kit is supposed to be very good. The good thing about the TO4 family is that if you ever want to upgrade anything it's very simple. Instead of changing the whole turbo you can just swap out housings, wheels, etc.

I like all of th stuff that is included with the blitz kit. Looks like they even give you new pulleys, better manifold, DP, air filter, ect. Seems like it is worth the extra $1100 (kit price $3869 vs HKS kit at $2599).

What kind of turbo comes with that kit? It's definitely more comprehensive. If you want BIG power then you'll need something like that.

K27? WTF is that?

Blitz turbo kits.

I pieced together my turbo setup for around $2500 and that included ceramic coating on some of the pipes. If you go this route be prepared for some headaches in the beginning. The thing I didn't like about kits is:

1) the good ones are way over priced.

2) The ones that are reasonably priced tend to use "bottom of the line" parts (which is why they are reasonably priced)

If you are pretty good at working on things you can by top of the line parts and put it together yourself and in the end it will cost you about the same as buying a cheap kit.

I agree. I paid about $1700 for my turbo, wastegate, and manifold. The oil lines cost me about $125 to do in SS braided hose with AN fittings. The downpipe isn't the greatest, but it works...for now. I also paid about $100 for my turbo to manifold ghasket and v-band clamp. So we're talking about $2000. If you don't want to buy a manifold then you can make one for about $100 in parts.

See, I don't know **** about turbos, so I don't think that I'd like to peice everything together. Trust me, with my luck, I'll **** something up.

Ray has some nice KKK turbo kits. I have his Stage 2 and love it. Out of the HKS and Blitz, I would go with HKS. Their kits are impecable. They leave nothing out and everything is top notch and you won't be shorted one little thing. The Blitz kit is a KKK turbo also. You may want to look at the HKS T04R kit. It makes a lot of power and a good combination of response as well.

If I had to do it all over though, I think I may have went with Innovative Turbo. They are "THE" place for turbo's. My friend just got a T-72 dual ballbearing for his Skyline. The thing is an absoulte beast!

Good luck with your choice. It all comes down to personal preference on what kind of power and response your looking to get.

Peace,

Ernie
