As tyson stated, a vented wastegate has NOTHING to do with daily driving noise. If you bury the pedal, of course it's going to get loud. If you cruise...wastegate will never open.

If it were me, i'd go with a highflow cat/resonated midpipe and leave the wastegate open. Besides, if you are going fast enough for the wastegate to be wide open and screaming, if a cop sees you going that fast you are screwewd regardless of noise. Another nice touch I did to mine for less noise for cruising was the m2 dual exhaust, racing beat would have the same effect.

Very big, very loud superbike.

No other car can come close for sound level short of a race engine with very high compression and open exhaust.
Agreed. My car would scare the **** out of people when the wastegate opened up. Nothing better than pulling up beside someone with their window down while i'm in full boost.

I'm glad our autocross course is out at the edge of a hick town!

The Honda weinies just set up a series in downtown Toronto close to where they run the Molson Indy, but I don't think I'll be allowed to go.

I found this thread to be a very enjoyable read, as I was laughing at the thought of just how loud an open wastegate must be. That is definitely in my car's future when I replace the hybrid I'm running now. I'm rarely at full boost except at the dragstrip, and I sincerely doubt that I'll be the loudest car there.

I'm guessing the Borla that people are referring to is the XR-1 stainless race muffler. Summit and Jegs both carry it. It's the only muffler I have on my car, and it's loud, but not too loud at cruise. I've never been pulled, but I don't drive the car around that much and there's lots of rednecks in this area. Gotta love them rednecks! Yee Haw!
