Does anyone have any first hand knowledge on the longevity of a reman with a single turbo. I have a TO4S and am contemplating a reman for my engine replacement.

Take a chance. Reman or stock engine. TO4S not so bad, bigger worse.

Why take a chance? Get a built engine for it. No short cuts. The short cut IS doing it the right way.

Some people have had great success with remans and rather large singles...ErnieT comes to mind.

When you get a reman. you know what you're getting. When you get a rebuild from a little shop you don't always know what you're getting.

I am bending. Shortest distance between two points is a line, after all. Bend a line and get a circle.

Most shops will almost NEVER admit they messed up, even if it's obvious. If you look at some of their warranties they basically say that any defect is your fault.

I have further investigated the matter and decided to go with a reman. Here are my deciding criteria for choosing a rebuild.

*it is relatively cheep at two thousand dollars

*I have heard of numerous problems with "built" engines lately and with the mods I have, most will not give me a warranty

*I will have plenty of money to do other mods (polyurethane motor mounts, get a new bumper, suspension, datalogit...)

*I will feel very secure with a warranty

*won't have to opt for new housings (most of the aftermarket "listed" prices don't include new housings, that is ridiculous, each seal has its own wear signature and not having new housings will encounter difficulties with this problem)

*my turbo is very good for stock ports and its efficiency range is within what a reman can handle

*what ever I lose without porting I can make up in boost

*the oil mods are really not that important with my demands and I'll have enough money to replace the stock oil cooler with a mocar or something like it to make up for all of the "extra cooling" capacity with a bigger cooler

Well, I guess I can rest now and call Malloy tomorrow...well...one more thing...do they need a core for exchange if I go with a rebuild from Malloy?

you do not "have" to give them a core, but they will add on a few hundred bucks to the price.
