Basically i want to know which production car came with the smallest turbo with an internal wastegate? It will be fitted to a 470cc engine.
Thanks -Jason |
I'm thinking 1.3L sohc suzuki swift
or firefly turbo or the primary turbo off a FD. but can i seperate the primary turbo off the turbo assembly on a FD, and also can i still use it's internal wastegate? |
you may be able to remove the second turbo off the fd

it certinly doesn't look simple. Hrm... How big is the turbo? i've never held or seen one in person. How does the FD primary compare with a S5 TII turbo? |
Both the primary and secondary turbos are the same size. They are Hitachi ht-12's. The TII turbo's are ht-(something largers). You can use one of them (fd's) on a turbo project if you wish. You will have to make a turbo to manifold flange as well as a turbo to downpipe flange. I'm sure you can mount the wastegate actuator on there somewhere and get everything to work. I disassembled a set of twins and am using one of them to slap on a crappy old honda and see how it works. I've had a lot of spare time on my hands lately https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

One from a Volkswagen TDI should be easy to find.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but i'm looking to find the smallest turbo. The engine is only 470cc kawazaki Z400 with big bore kit.

yeah the 1.8t audi/vw/seat k03 is mighty small
the fd turbos are about 2x the size of an fc turbo assembled |
3Si turbos are very small as well......
