Basically i want to know which production car came with the smallest turbo with an internal wastegate? It will be fitted to a 470cc engine.

Thanks

I'm thinking 1.3L sohc suzuki swift

or

firefly turbo

or the primary turbo off a FD. but can i seperate the primary turbo off the turbo assembly on a FD, and also can i still use it's internal wastegate?

j9fd3s 01-12-2004 11:51 PM

you may be able to remove the second turbo off the fd

it certinly doesn't look simple. Hrm... How big is the turbo? i've never held or seen one in person. How does the FD primary compare with a S5 TII turbo?

Heath 01-13-2004 07:49 AM

Both the primary and secondary turbos are the same size. They are Hitachi ht-12's. The TII turbo's are ht-(something largers). You can use one of them (fd's) on a turbo project if you wish. You will have to make a turbo to manifold flange as well as a turbo to downpipe flange. I'm sure you can mount the wastegate actuator on there somewhere and get everything to work. I disassembled a set of twins and am using one of them to slap on a crappy old honda and see how it works. I've had a lot of spare time on my hands lately https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

VW passat's have the tinnies little turbo ever.

TYSON 01-13-2004 08:06 AM

One from a Volkswagen TDI should be easy to find.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but i'm looking to find the smallest turbo. The engine is only 470cc kawazaki Z400 with big bore kit.

j9fd3s 01-13-2004 10:57 AM

yeah the 1.8t audi/vw/seat k03 is mighty small

the fd turbos are about 2x the size of an fc turbo assembled

ROTARYFDTT 01-13-2004 01:10 PM

3Si turbos are very small as well......

boost_creep 01-13-2004 09:43 PM

The chevy sprint turbo, but I doubt youll find one today. I have a intercooler with blow off valve from said motor...maybe dismanteled turbo. Funny I had these sitting in the garage for awhile now, I will go take some pictures https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png to entertain you guys.

94touring 01-14-2004 12:40 AM

I'm thinking it was from the suzuki.

SPOautos 01-14-2004 12:27 PM

Forget looking at it next to you single for comparison.....look at it next to your thumb nail. The compressor wheel is barely bigger than your thumb haha

I'll ask Bryan at BNR and see what he says. He's pretty much rebuilt every turbo imaginable

sounds like a bike motor

you know there were production turbo bikes, just get a used turbo from one of those. Kawasaki 750 Turbo comes to mind, check out 750turbo.com.

RONIN FC 01-14-2004 02:11 PM

Dodge 600 turbo. Small turbo!

THe mx-6 turbos were t25 turbos with .48 a/r ratios

acura people and civic people use them for turbo chargers.

FikseRxSeven 01-15-2004 10:05 PM

chrystler turbos t25's not sure of hte a/r

TheCamel 01-16-2004 05:33 AM

Suzuki Cappachino, 660cc 3 cyl, the turbo assy is about as long as a cigarette. litterally. Ask the guys in Japan for a Kei Car turbo, all the yellow license plates you see in Japan are emissions friendly cars with a 660cc or less displacement engine. Suzuki Wagon R, Honda Beat, Suzuki Cappachino etc etc. Just have them look around the turbos are everywhere

j200pruf 01-20-2004 12:57 AM

I would just get a bike turbo, they shouldn't be that hard to find.

TheAntiChrice 01-20-2004 01:38 AM

smallest turbo I'd have to say.. Check out 85-86 nissan 200SX turbos... Its a t-25 I wanna say.. I've seen donuts bigger than that thing.. its cuter than all hell.. Fisher price my first turbo and ****..

NewbernD 01-22-2004 09:02 AM

If you know anyone on a college FSAE team, Garrett's giving out turbos that many teams use on their 600cc bike engines for their formula car projects. They're GT-12s and GTV-15s.. The GTV has a VATN exhaust housing that you could probably put the -12 compressor on and have one hell of a bike turbo. Ball bearing and variable exhaust..

Although I suppose you could even buy a new one from them...
