I know the stock turbos can make that, but I dont want to deal with the heat or all of the tubes(i guess i could go non sequential though) So Im here to ask wha t is everything i need to buy ?

What turbo can i get for cheap? I found this on ebay, pretty cheap, but would it work? I know I need a wastgate and a new manifold, will this one do : manifold ? Other than that, what do i need? Im trying to do this for as cheap as possible, which means i will do all the work, and buy some things used.

So here is what i was thinking of

for sure:

Turbo ??

manifold 300-400

wastegate 250

mbc 60

ecu ??

Water injection 250

Injectors ??

fuel pump 150

gauges 100

radiator 450

maybe:

full exshaust

intercooler

clutch

I have a few questions regarding that, what size injectors will i need if i plan on running 350-400rwhp eventually? I hear not many rx7s use the safc for tunning, why? Can i use some sort of datalogging setup in place of certain guages? Does anyone know if there is a pocketlogger like the one for dsms out there? Oh, and i tried doing a search on different turbos but the search is limited to 4 or more letters/numbers. Also, I dont mind haveing to run lower boost whiloe i wait on more money for other upgrades. Is this an ok route? anyone have a better suggestion? I also heard the stock turbos dont like 15 psi very much, thats another reason it would be nice to get rid of them right off the bat. Is there anything im missing, would anyone suggest i dont get the turbo set up? Maybe stick to twins untill i get all the supporting mods first, maybe get a vented hood, nice intercooler and rad setup with some water injection on stock twins?

thanks

oh by the way, there doesnt seem to be many indepth faqs on upgrading rx7s, am i missing something?

Yeah, I would buy a kit, but i think half the fun is the hunt for parts, and paeicing together a monster. Maybe im crazy, or maybe its in my blod from fixing up my talon.

Don't be afraid of piecing together a kit yourself. It will definitely save you alot of money.

1) I have never heard of that turbo you are looking at. I would stay away from it. You could start off with a T04E turbo for about $700

2) That manifold looks like the OBX manifold. This will work fine as long as you don't use a turbine any bigger than .84.

3) Here is the list of the things you will need:

BOV - 170

WG - 300-500

Manifold - 400-500

DP - 150

IC - 1500

IC piping - 200

ECU - 1500

1600 cc injectors - 200

Injector rail kit - 200

FPR - 160

Air Filter - 40

Lines and Fittings - 100

turbo - 700-1000

MP - 150

CB - 400-600

Misc - 200

4) Forget about water injection, you don't need it.

5) A kit will only cover the single turbo stuff. You need a lot more than a kit can offer.

If you get really cheap like me, you can use the 2 stock BOVs. They actually flow a good bit working together.

ok, so here is the deal, I dont have that much money

So which mods would you guys say I should get , the most needed ones, Ill probably have around 2,500 - 3000 dollars to spend on a stock fd + reliability mods. Or in other words which mods besides turbo, manifold, and wastegate, do i need to run a very basic setup that i can slowly add to and utilize more fully the single turbo. maybe keep it at a low boost, get a upgraded ecu(i hate the idea of spending 1 grand on an ecu, plus dyno time, is there a setup that i can tune on my own?), down pipe, and water injection. I have to get water injection, not really for performance, but for relieability also, ive heard such good things about it, plus the group price on it is great, i dont know if i can pass that up.

thanks

You can drop the price by buying some parts used, but make SURE the person selling them is legit. I did the following based on normal used part pricing.

Mani, Wastegate, DP - 900

Turbo (new) - 750

IC + piping - 800

PFC or Haltec - 900

850 cc primaries -100

Midpipe - 100

Cat back - 250

Air filter, lines, stuff - 200

Misc - 200

Thats still over 4000 and is the bare minimum to get it running. You will need to tune on a dyno or, better yet, just buy a wideband 02 kit. I'd recommend getting the basics first (intake, IC, dp, mp, cat back, ECU) -you can do 350 rwhp with that on the twins if your motor is healthy.

Yeah, i was thinking about that, what sort of times are possible on a full exhaust, intake, ecu, and ic? At what point do the stock tires have trouble putting power to the ground, for example punching it at around 30-40 mph. So does anyone have anything to say about the safc 2? I am having a hard time imagining buying a 1000 doller ecu, when I would assume the safc could up the fuel enough for my needs.

I assume your not ported... If you are ported you can get a little smaller turbo and save a few $$

If your broke

you dont need the;

injectors

Intercooler or a piping kit (Depends on the turbo)

ECU (just need the tunning)

Peicing a kit together is not cheaper by far. If your going all USED

you can pick up a USED kit, it will be cheaper and you would have

all the parts.

If you piece it and your almost done, and OOPS I dont have a downpipe

you will see what I mean when you HAVE to buy it NEW. Trust, HKS, APEXi

are all good prices as a KIT and more then $1000 if you peice it together.

Building a car is a ton of fun, building a TURBO kit isnt much of a score nor

is it fun. Especially when your looking for USED stuff, or hand me downs.

This is free advice, doesnt hurt me either way, do what you want to do.

If you know the kit you might like, which for 350hp-400hp, I would recommend

the T04E. Those kits are all over Japan USED, just give me a ring or shoot an

e-mail when you decide what your going to do.
