To clear things up for the above fellow, someone figure out the gauge piping or the wall thickness of the tubing on the Obx unit. There is a reason there are no copyrights to exhaust manifolds, there just isn't that many ways to do it...

1Revvin7 02-08-2005 10:04 PM

As you can see the Flange is very thick, I serisously doubt the OBX unit is anywhere near close.

Have you guys ran one of these manifolds on a car yet to test it out? I ask because sometimes bracing is the cause of a manifold cracking apart. When the tubing expands faster than the brace you'll get a crack where the brace is attached to the tubing.

BTW, you're a lucky SOB to work in a shop like that...

These have already been ran on serveral 3rd generation Rx-7s.

Yes Dave I am now in Arizona, these units are made in the family owned Exotic shop. They were actually made a long time ago, I believe over a year. They just never surface until I came down.

Fd3BOOST 02-08-2005 10:09 PM

Here is the manifold I was sent by Davinchi. I think it's OBX/SSauotchrome.

lighting didn't turn out as I had planned, the coating is actually a more goldish color.

Your family owns an exotic shop? You bitch. I thought my great uncles Harley shop was the **** but we don't have any pimp ass exotics laying around.

1Revvin7 02-08-2005 10:12 PM

Dave can you take a picture of the 1st Large picture I posted on this page entitle " closeups". It appears that your Davinci unit uses much smaller diameter main runners.

Fd3BOOST 02-08-2005 10:34 PM

Well they do look some what wider. Best way to tell for sure would be to wrap an seamstress tape around it for a proper measurement. However it's pretty obvious that the two are totally different. The one you posted inages of has a three piece pipe and the Davinchi is one piece. Look at the welds and one can easily see the difference. I would like to buy one as well but as Martin mentions the down pipe most likely will not fit. Chances of the turbo being in the same spot is pretty f-ng slim. Too bad to because the manifold looks pretty sweet. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif

1Revvin7 02-08-2005 10:38 PM

Thanks Dave. I figured the close-ups would clear any confusion or doubts. We will be more than likely be making complete kits, I do have access to a local fd for test fitment so it shouldn't be a problem. I am also doing work on a big turbo mr2 in the shop so we might be developing manifolds for them too. I believe we are going to start the n/a headers here shortly also. As you can see we are extremely busy.

Kooks welded a bracket for Jim's manifold to bolt up somewhere on the engine for support, dont know why no one else just doesnt weld a bracket to support the weight of the turbo?

the racing beat 3 rotor engine had that.

What about the FC, do you have access to one for test fits?

Dysfnctnl85 02-09-2005 07:59 AM

I doubt you have access to a 13b-RE FB, so would it be a problem to release the measurements of the manifold? That way I could get some idea where this would put my turbo in the engine bay...

Did you guys use CAD to draw this or just basically freehand it to get a reference?

1Revvin7 02-09-2005 09:42 AM

I'll get measurments today and try and figure out some pricing for a GB. I would like to cordinate a group buy on Rx-7 club also.

Who ever did make that manifold is one bad ass dude. My hat is off to him/her.

widebody2 02-09-2005 01:14 PM

The OBX uses 3 part runners as well. Its the ssautochrome one that has a single part runner. Also the OBX manifold has been out at least 4 years so they were made way before these manifolds. This pic is of the OBX. The runners are the exact same diameter. They are both the same size as the port. Just like the racing beat flange...it uses slightly over 2 inch ports. Your flanges do look thicker

My uncle has been in the turbocharging business since the early 70s.

Here are the dimensions of the FD unit that is pictured:

15" from the wastegate flange to the turbine flange, this is the maximum length.

5 3/4" is the max height not including the flange, including the bottom of the engine flange its 7 1/4" tall. It protrudes 7" from the engine to wastegate flange, and 7 1/2" to the turbine flange.

L W

15" x 7.5" basically.

If any of this is confusing please post.

The FC unit wil be an addition 3" in width from the engine to the turbine housing flange and the w/g flange will be an addition 1'"or 2" out. We have yet to fab the FC unit up, but we are working on it.

1Revvin7 02-09-2005 01:42 PM

P.S. We are going to guarnantee the craftsmanship.

Comitatus 02-09-2005 04:22 PM

Hopefully this will allow me to fit my 1.32 housing. If it does, I'm heavily considering this unit, especially WITH the guarantee.

Please keep us informed on the progress for the FC units...

j200pruf 02-09-2005 04:51 PM

Hey Revvin what are the chances the FC manifolds will fith with a 6 port LIM?

This manifold won't work well with a FB. It places the turbo too far forward. FC's and FD's need the turbo farther forward than FB's

GoRacer 02-09-2005 07:24 PM

Which turbos will mate up to this? I am considering a GT-35R (not 35/40) for my FD. I don't like how the 35/40 sits so far forward. I would prefer clearance, tucked in close and rearward but at least some vibration space.

Rob x-7 02-09-2005 07:25 PM

they do look like the same thing, I guess materials and gauge would make the difference

Chances are it will. We won't know for sure until it is finished.

As long as they are the standard T04 turbine footprint.

T04SFD 02-09-2005 11:35 PM

When will this group buy get under way?

Count me in

teknics 02-10-2005 02:52 AM

I haven't recieved any PM's from anyone regarding the manifold. Try shooting me another or else my email is: Elziot@yahoo.com

1Revvin7 02-10-2005 01:34 PM

Group Buy info:

If we have 25 orders we are going to throw in free gold coating for the insides of the manifolds, a $75 value through the deal we have with polydyn. There regular sales price is around 2.5x what we get it for; you get the picture.

In order to get in on the group buy you must send a $600 Money Order My way, and then you will be counted in. Pm me for shipping info. I am setting up this offer on Rx7club right now also.

It takes 8 weeks for them to get to your house, they won't be sent out until the group buy is finished.

It will last to the 10th of next month.

Comitatus 02-10-2005 03:03 PM

Ok, so to clarify...

If we order one, we will get it 8 weeks from the end of the group buy?

I still need to get info on the fitting for the FC. I'll try shooting an email later on.

1Revvin7 02-11-2005 10:31 AM

The FC unit will take an addition 4 weeks, we don't have the unit made, so we have to make sure it fits several of your test vehicle 2nd gens, if it doesn't fit then we need time to make it fit.

Comitatus, can you give me the dimension of your 1.32 turbine housings?

Im not trying to start anything or bash in any way....but Im sure some people are going to question the money order. Why not setup something through paypal or similar service. Also do you think you will be able to get 25 people by the 10th of next month? Im not saying to leave it open till whenever but a little more time would help in getting the 25 orders....say to the end of next month.

Again im not trying to start anything, just pointing some concerns that Im sure others will have. Good luck with it.

Yeah, I will take some measurements when I get home, let me know if there is any specific measurement that you need...

That may be a good idea. I know people like easy ways to pay.
