Question, say you were tuning for 15lbs,and tuning for WOT,would a person tune 1st-3rd gear, set the timing a bit conservative then move onto 4th gear for the fine tuning because theres more load in 4th gear?Im also assuming peak torque would occur on the 4th gear..how is load, rpm, and what gear your in related?all i know is load and rpm,and tune for every load and rpm..but as you shift into a higher gear it puts more load on the engine..

Thanks

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Ive seen some people tune in low boost in 3rd and 4th, and then in high boost. It also depends on what system you are using......some of them adjust to the conditions of the car eg guy tuned in high boost 3rd gear made settings did a 4th gear pull and his fuel curve was almost identical 11.9 all the way across.

Ok so lets say on a gt35/40 turbo for a 90rx7..say we have 18 degrees of timing at around 12 psi and timing was tuned on a third gear run at wot, what would happen if we used this same map and did a 4th gear run wot?im guessing timing would need to get retarded..we're just using this car for daily street use.im understanding it somewhat but not fully..thanks for the patience and the info...

you should tune in 4th gear with more load. you only need tune the lower gears for vacuum and cruising

I get it, since 4th gear will have more load on it anyways, if i were to wot in 3rd or 2nd it would handle it because, its tuned to handle the load... and tune 1-3 for cruise and vaccum...tuning isnt as hard as i thought it would be..That pretty much answers my question.i already know where the egts, afr's and all that stuff is supposed to be at..finally gaining some confidence/knowledge

Thanks dvls-7 and Vosko....

I get it just to be safe, to run around 11.3- 11.6 or so in the cruising areas because they will also be used for wot..

thanks for the tip.
