well i had a apex rx6 kit lying around, so i figured i would install it and see how it was. my car was running perfectly fine 2 months ago before i started doing the install. the car has been sitting for the winter and i started the single about 2 weeks ago. anyway got it done today and i fired it up.... blowing some thick oil and has 0 power. it doesnt want to idle at all. it smells of fuel and oil pretty bad. seems to me like the motor is blown but i dont understand how. i started the car before the install and no problems. did the install and now it runs like ****. any ideas of what it could be? maybe something i forgot to connect?

DUB 02-24-2005 07:45 PM

Holy cow man, that one hard problem to diagnose over the net...

Sounds like it could be a bad turbo...blowing tons of oil.

what ECU?

Do a compression test to see about the motor.

smg944 02-24-2005 07:54 PM

will do a compression test tomorrow. it seems more like the motor then the turbo just by the way it runs, idles, and sounds. unless there is an oil vacuum i forgot to connect. i still have the rats nest in, because i thought i might go back to the twins.

btw. the ecu is a power fc tuned for the turbo and 1200cc injectors.

also.. i checked the intercooler pipes and there was no oil so thats another reason i think its not the turbo.

94touring 02-24-2005 10:56 PM

Did you eliminate the rats nest and add the proper block off plates ect... Does the ecu have the proper map? A lot of variables and unlikely the engine is blown if all you did was crank it up.

FikseRxSeven 02-25-2005 12:04 AM

my guess is you'r flooding your engine with those 1200cc injectors... you probably dont have the injectors set for stock... double check that.

and make sure everything is blocked off and capped properly

smg944 02-25-2005 01:31 AM

what do you mean by the injectors set for stock? i installed the turbo kit, ecu, and injectors at the same time. the ecu was set for the turbo and 1200cc injectors.

Fe3Boost 02-25-2005 06:42 AM

can you get a video of it running or cranking. That would help:)

amp 02-25-2005 07:41 AM

were there any issues with the turbo prior to install..

mazdadrifter 02-25-2005 08:41 AM

what size oil feed line are you running to the turbo? did the kit come with a pill?

smg944 02-25-2005 09:24 AM

no problems with the turbo that i know of. no shaft play or anything either.

i am using the oil feed line that came with the kit. i dont know if there are any pills in it...

i will try to get a vid. ill see if my buddy has something i can use.

94touring 02-25-2005 09:50 AM

That kit if memory serves me has a restrictor in the line already, should be fine there.

Fe3Boost 02-25-2005 11:56 AM

I know this is a stupid question but............

Have you checked the Map sensor vacuum line?

smg944 02-25-2005 12:00 PM

yes checked the map sensor it was connected.

94touring 02-25-2005 02:08 PM

What about spark plug wire configuration? They in the right order? Now is also a good time to pull the plugs and see if they are wet with fuel and fouled. Is it the correct map sensor and is the PFC setup to read whatever bar map it is?

smg944 02-25-2005 02:31 PM

oh forgot to add that i just did an msd 6a ignition set up to my leading plugs. i know i set it up correct. i will re check it though.

also i think this could be my problem. i checked the vac. lines for the OMP and i had capped the line that goes to the intake. could the OMP just be shooting in oil because i dont have it vacuumed?

on the ecu , i think the map is correct. i bought the ecu with a map for this turbo set up and these injectors.

DUB 02-25-2005 03:13 PM

no, the omp wouldn't just dump oil...the vacuum line helps open the nozzles, some say the nozzles will in fact open at atmosphere.

cymfc3s 02-25-2005 04:07 PM

dude, youve got a ton of variables. Next time, do the upgrades in stages. Install turbo, verify car starts, runs, idles, etc. Then install the MSD ignition box, etc. If you change everything at once you better hope to god it all works or else your scratching your head (what your doing now) trying to figure out what the **** went wrong.

Im very anti-msd, so Im betting the ignition buggered up.

smg944 02-25-2005 04:11 PM

but what would explain the extra oil being burnt....

smg944 02-25-2005 07:27 PM

ok, checked spark from the msd ...... and nothing. i butt connected the wires. i think thats not working to well. i am going to soder them and see what happens.

smg944 03-03-2005 06:11 PM

ok update. re-did the ignition except this time i went with a crane hi-6s. i really like this ignition amp because it stops multi-sparking at 2k rpm.. anyway now re-checked spark on the leading coils and its good.

now the problem is that it still runs the same. i noticed fuel is being spit out of my tailpipe. i put my finger in the tailpipe and i got a good amount of raw fuel on it. so i am figuring the 1200cc injectors are the problem. when i installed the injectors i did not lube them. i had completely forgot. figuring they could have split or something.

FikseRxSeven 03-03-2005 06:20 PM

since your ignition wasnt working before, your car is probably flooded like a mother fucker... clean those plugs or get new ones, and unflood that motor before you try to crank it again

94touring 03-03-2005 10:16 PM

Yeah there is a chance your injectors are fine. You flooded it with no spark. Change plugs they are definetly fouled.

smg944 03-04-2005 12:29 AM

really that fouled out that it will run horrible and spit fuel out? there was so much fuel that it was sitting in both tips of the exhaust. well i will change the plugs next and see what happens.

94touring 03-04-2005 12:40 AM

Yeah, if you weren't making any spark like you said or maybe improper spark, fuel wasn't being burnt. So when you sat there and kept turning it over and over, fuel continually got injected. Spark plugs go bad when they get saturated like that and will not work properly if at all. Pull those plugs and clear the system, then install new plugs.

smg944 03-05-2005 04:06 PM

well found the problem. it was my injectors being installed improporly without lube. check out the pics , the black center plastic was cracked and fuel was being leaked in because the o-ring were not seated properly. pics on page 7
