I am on 93 octane, run 14 degrees after 15psi. Here are a couple shots of a datalog I did a while back on the apexi kit....got a little carried away with boost. You will notice my timing began to become more advanced in the higher rpms, something I was playing with at the time. I started to get break up after 16 degrees in the higher rpms, so I decided to put it back to 14degrees across the board. As long as timing isn't too advanced in peak torque you are less likely to blow a motor anyways. I have the air correction maps setup to begin retarding timing once it hits around 140F.

he is some local rx7 guy that claims to know all. but i keep telling him that its fine as long as you tune it well. also 94touring those are some high boost numbers. did you find the rx6 was still making power or that it was out of its effiecency "i cant spell https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blush.png " range??? i mean come on 27 psi seems like a awful lot of boost. i think that guy down here is just retarded. he has a monster brideport and t66 or something on his nonrunning TII. the way i see it a porting job moves your power band so that you get better power up high but worse power down low. correct me if i am wrong, but also wouldnt the extra combustion from the larger ports create more stress on your engine. i am not syaing a well tuned ported motor is going to pop. what i am trying to make this guy undersand is that a WELL tuned engine is going to work. its not like i just duct taped performance parts to my car. i took my time and researched what i wanted and did it all at the same time. anyways.....he is starting to bother me so i stopped talking to him....he is making my head hurt. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

Did your boost fall off on it's own at high RPM, or did you do that?

22 PSI is a lot of pressure. Air temp stayed pretty low, but I guess it didn't have a lot of time to rise.

I should be able to keep my air temp as low as yours (bigger turbo, and water spray on the intercooler), so I might try some big boost on 94 octane.

Apexkw, thats not 27psi thats 27vacume. If it has a * by it, its vacume. The apexi turbo isn't that effiecant after 18psi anyways, probably get a bit more torque with 22psi. Also a stock port will and should last longer than a bridgeport.

Tyson, my boost on the apexi turbo would fall on its own some, but also my boost controller has different rpm ranges to adjust boost and it was probably set wrong on the higher rpms. The t-62 with the much larger exhaust side holds boost up high with no problems, and keeps on pulling strong all the way to redline.

he is hitting 22psi by 5k rpm. no wonder your car is so damn fast. mine holds 15psi. i need to crank the boost!

These motors are very capable of more than 15psi on pump gas. That wasn't the first time I went over 18psi on pump.

vosko 05-02-2003 05:59 PM

i am wary of going above 15psi on pump gas............................

Get some H2O injection Vosko and crank the boost up and extra pound or two and watch that t-78 come to life. The difference on the t-62 from 15 to 18psi is huge.

I'll have to agree with you on that. Lots of the Okinawa boys are running 19psi~ without water injection and running as low as 89 octane https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png with the timing slightly retarded https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif I know that Dragon boost 1.5 kilos with water injection, has a modest a/f and knocks 21 on his PFC https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

Thats very interesting, especially with 89 octane. But doesn't really suprise me I guess.

Where did the rule of thumb 'don't go over 15psi on pump gas come from anyways'?
