just like it says. how many of you guys run a stock ported motor with a single turbo. how much power are you making, and how do you think your engine is holding up?

My buddy has my old apexi turbo on his stock ports, runs like a champ. Doesn't ErnieT run 10's on a stock port with the KKK turbo?

well i always thought that going single turbo with proper tuning wasnt a big deal on a stock engine. but this guy down here keeps telling me i am extremely stupid and i am going to blow my engine. i didnt think i was wrong. i have seen a couple of really fast third gens with a single setup and stock ports. but this guy is just not letting up. i have have a rx6 tuned for 15psi. i run it at 13psi for around town. he still thinks that anything above 12psi is going to pop my motor. is he retarded or am i ???

Who is "this guy", does he drive a hooked up Cibic, YO? How is porting going to increase the strength of your motor? I'm assuming he is saying it's not as durable? The only durability mods people do have nothing to do with porting, hell, some ports make the engine LESS durable. Even 3mm seals vs 2mm seals are debatable as a durability mod, any other durability mods seem to centre on clearancing for extended high RPM service. Dowelling the block seems to be scoffed at until you're hitting 600 hp.

The only weight his argument might have is if you are throwing high boost into an old, tired motor. Rebuilding it back to 'stock' through careful tolerancing and proper workmanship would give you a new 'stock' durable engine capable of handling high boost, as long as it's tuned properly.

i know a guy with a stock port/rx6 fd and it went 8k miles before the engine came apart. he was running .8-.9 kgcm2. theoretically 13psi is fine, it might want a more conservative ignition map than what xs puts in though (the rotors were hammered). i also think btw on a stock port street car that the rx6 is a great turbo, its very responsive

My friend mike just dynoed his 3540 on a stock reman. He put down 402hp at 6000rpms at 15psi. Due to problems with the boost controller they couldn't get good numbers above 6000.

That's BS, an RX6 on stock ports works great and is probably more reliable than the stock twins with good tuning. I have a TO4E on stock ports and it runs great, my car is much happier with this setup than the stock twins.. it is ALL in the tuning. If someone wanted to put a T88 on a stock port motor I may advise against that, but then look at ErnieT.. tuning, tuning, tuning!!

Dude tell the **** that 94touring from nopistons has run 18psi on pump gas on the apexi turbo for about 2 years and a t62-1 for several months now with ZERO problems. If anything stock ports are more reliable than crazy street ports.

What octane and timing are you using for 18 psi? What intake temps are you seeing?

Gotta hit the dyno soon as I zero the timing, start her up and get some street tuning in.
