I own a 90 TII and have stock turbo for now and looking to upgrade soon. My current mods are...

Haltech E6K

Greddy fmic

Racing beat full exhaust

550/860 injectors

rotary works street port

port matched manifolds

blitz super sound BOV

Not sure on internal or external wastegate?

what turbo manifold?

what turbo?

If I go external waste then need advice on wastegate

Was looking at garrett gt25r turbo or some type of T3/T4

Any help is great

Stay away from t3 turbos, those are for small 4 bangers.

What is your budget, power goals, and whats the car used for? Do you car about lag?

NeedToSellMyCar 05-16-2004 11:06 PM

my price range is nothing too much, maybe for turbo, mani, wastegate nothing more than 2000. Car will be used daily for the most part. I use the car for track and some fun drifting and also like it to be fast in a straight too. So a good all arond car and not have a lot of lag.

Another thing is that i see turbo manifolds for the fc and they are all t4 flanges how would i accomidate the t3? Some form of adapter plate but how would I go about doing this?

djgiantrobot 05-17-2004 03:12 AM

you'd have to have it build for a t3 flange however DON'T. As stated above a T3 hotside is TOO SMALL for a rotary unless its a GT3540 which happens to have a T3 flange. Keeping it under 2k, i'd say go with the HKS cast iron manifold, HKS wastegate, to4e or to4s turbo.

Get on the dyno and you will find out why rx7 guys don't use T3 turbos...

Lionheart240 05-18-2004 01:32 AM

Why don't you just tell me? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Midnightdriver 05-19-2004 05:34 PM

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png its much better if you see if for yourself on the dyno why we stay away from them t3/t4 turbos.

drunkin_idiot 05-19-2004 05:38 PM

So then what to do? go with a t04?

Midnightdriver 05-19-2004 05:40 PM

that is a good start with ext wastegate and cast hks manifold T04e/s/r all are good

Check out the link. It is of my old set up. 86 n/a motor with a T3 .82 a/r stage III wheel 60-1. Ran a best 1/4 mile time of 124mph in my 2720lb 1st gen. I do think I was at the limits of this set up. That is why I went bigger turbo. High 11 second passes with the T3 turbo showed no signs of choking at the top end. This was at 19-20psi. I have some time slips also.

What is a good boost level to run in the cars? My motor is ported and was told somewhere around 14 psi is no problem for a street ported motor. Just wondering what is safe on the engine and what other rx7 owners are usually boosting?

14 psi on what turbine? Boost pressure is relative, You still need to worry about the actual pressure but the CFM is the largest concern.

Also I dynoed 369hp at the wheels on my TD06 (t3 flange) a .95kilo of boost. The car was fast. Some manufacturers use T3 flanges and some use T4 flanges.........A/R and the size of the exhaust wheel are the major concern, not the bolt pattern

Basically. Thats why some guys can run the t3 manifold( gt35/40) and make good numbers. Its just the turbine housing and wheel is large for that footprint.
