I was wondering what everyone here is running on street tires. Not drag radials, not slicks, I don't want to hear crap about et street, or the Nitto's or Bf's drag radials........just treaded street tires. 60' times, MPH and so on. I'm curious to know what the single turbo guys are running. :smirk:

Dragon 10-05-2002 11:50 PM

All of these responses to you question should tell you somhting about your question...

Ie. we don't run street tires because if you do you will die or total your RX-7 if it's making power.

jspecracer7 10-06-2002 12:25 AM

I don't dare run anything except Nitto 555r's even on a stock fd3s...

vosko 10-06-2002 12:34 AM

i did a 1.92 60FT on kumho ecta supra 712's on my 89 TII stock rims............... IT CAN BE DONE!!!

Dragon 10-06-2002 02:12 AM

and how much contol did you have in the top end of second and 3rd gears... lol

1Revvin7 10-06-2002 10:40 AM

that would be scary, if seen some pretty fast FDs go sideways on street tires....

i swear on my bridgestone SO-3 pole positions. i have a meatty 285 in the rear. it rains too much here for me to run DR's. after all, my fd is my daily bitch....

lou

94touring 10-06-2002 03:39 PM

I've tried a few different types of tires. The setup I like the best is to run a normal or high quality tire up front, something that will last a long time and give good performace and is also something that will work in rain. For the rear I use kumho ecsta 700's (auto-x and road race). They have some tread to help in the rain, they last a good while in normal use if you were to daily drive, and they hook up just as good as the nitto drag radial. I tried the nitto's, but they are designed for drag racing and provide horrible handling response, they also only last a few thousand miles of normal driving use. I then tried some bf kdw's, these are great tires but can't handle 400hp. They spin like crazy and you will lose control. I ended up keeping them on the front since they are very responsive to handling and offer good mileage.

well i don't expect 9 second runs. But definitely some high 11's and low 12's. this i know because, i have driven the cars and been a passenger. your point makes no sense, because during a recent road race event, my car didn't get all squirmy on my Yoko A-520. Top of 2-3-4 th gears. full straight line acceleration, just like a drag race. I've also scored 1.94-2.0 60' times with my Yoko's........HHHmmmm maybe we just know what we're doing in Texas.

So does anyone have times or what!

Dragon 10-06-2002 08:03 PM

My car will go completly sideways under any power with anything but Drag Radials or SS compound circuit tires like Ao32's..

So your telling me your car will go strait and is totaly controlable up to 150mph when your full on balls to the walls, pedel to the metal, throttle position sensor reading 5volts out put, wastgate wide open and you car won't go sidways and try to kill you???

O' Nitto's actually kick ass in the rain by the way... they look like they would suck due to there being almost no tread depth when they are new... but they actually ******* rule in the rain.. Me and my friends were very surprised... It rains a lot in Okinawa too and is super slipery due to the coral dust and salt off the ocean and the shitty japanese concrete doesn't help..

about how much power do you think your pushing? I can slow on accelerate in 2nd gear rolling at 30-40 kph and when the boost comes on I can break my 315/35/17 Nitto 555R's completly loose, but at least they will still propel the car forward instead of trying to put it in a flat spin like every street tire that has ever been on my car..

Fastrotaries 10-07-2002 11:16 PM

Mine break loose too! I got somewhere around 400? I haven't Dynoed it recently. I run 18 psi high boost and at 10 psi i make 342. (w/o the bottle) Balls to the wall they'll slip in 1-2-3 on street tires. You just have to feather it, use some finesse.

Fastrotaries 10-07-2002 11:17 PM

i've got fully adjustable suspension!

Dragon 10-08-2002 01:15 AM

I've got fully adj suspension, K2RD rear drag links, K2RD rear toe links, solid aluminum diff mounts, solid tranny mount, Mazda Speed PPF, Solid engine mount, Cusco 2 way diff, 17x10J wheels and 315 Nitto's... and total complete loss of traction in lower gears under boost..

Dragon 10-08-2002 01:23 AM

Wow that is great... I posted the name of a buisness (K2RD) and I don't have to worry about getting banned for it.. :wiggle:

what are (is) PPF? i have almost the same set up. Mazdaspeed rear diff mount. and mazdacomp motor mounts....Geez the solid aluminums were too stiff. Q: the tires you have on the rear, what offset are they, and do you have the stock fenders or have done any bodywork to fit them in the rear? I'm thinking about Mariah's wide front fenders. check out the pic. by the way do you have any pics of your set-up. Don't be stingy, and share.

Fastrotaries 10-09-2002 12:01 AM

personally though, i've never liked Nitto's i've always felt Yoko's were stickier and when snapped out, came back under, smoother.
