This may seem convoluted, but I'm thinking about making my own exhaust manifold for the Cosmo motor. After looking at Fikse's thread, I thought about a divided manifold to match the divided T04R 1.00 I really want.

Is this something that's necessary for a divided turbo? Is it worthless to run a divided (I guess the correct word is tangential) housing with an undivided manifold?

Lastly, if it's not worth it to go without the divided manifold, has anyone ever fab'd their own divided mani?

Again, sorry for the confusion, hopefully you guys can make sense of it!

Tangential and divided housings are 2 different things. Tangential refers to the position of the flange on the turbine housing, which is at an angle. Divided housings/manifolds are called divided. Its not optimal to run a log style manifold with a divided turbine housing, the exhaust pulses bounce around when they hit the housing. Just make your own manifold. It will hellp with power numbers and turbo lag.

So make my own, but then what turbo: tangential or not?

the turbo you want is both Tangential and Divided, most turbos are.

There are 4 possiablities for turbo housing designs:

Tangential Divided/ UnDivided

On Center Divided/ UnDivided

Its best if you have a divided turbo to go with a divided manifold. With a divided manifold you can force the exhaust gas to go where you want it to go. It will make for faster spool and power. If it helps here is a picture of my divided manifold for my 13b.

Is that possible to fabricate using SS? If it is, I would gladly attempt to do it.

EDIT:

I had an afterthought. Wouldn't my manifold *techinically* be divided anyway, with a SS tube for each exhaust port? And the flange that connects the mani to the turbo and mani to the motor would not be a collector; I mean, the SS tubes would never contribute to the same exhaust stream.

Am I thinking about this in the right way?

So you're telling me to order a T04R with a divided housing right now?!?!

LOL.
