i know this has been asked a 1000 times, but is there a deep sounding exhaust that flows well? i have tried the apexi gt and have one like that now. the apexi was waaayy loud without the silencer. sounded great with the silencer, but made a lot less power. this weekend i listened to a bundch of exhausts and found that the m2 exhaust sounds nice, but its small. my current exhaust (SARD) goes from 3 to 4 inches and flows good, but sounds like a motorcycle at hi rpms. any ideas? -gordon

vosko 10-08-2002 11:35 PM

i have the OLD racing beat catback on my FD. i think it sounds really good. its loud but its a bassy loud. i need to get some video of it driving so you guys can hear it

RussellTT94 10-08-2002 11:41 PM

i think that every worked rx-7 is bound to sound like a chainsaw, regardless of cat back

vosko 10-08-2002 11:49 PM

mine sorta sounds like a first gen somehow. hard to describe it LOL

Fastrotaries 10-09-2002 12:02 AM

don't go medalion or worse thermal. they sound wayyy too raspy. i like the RB exhausts.

vosko 10-09-2002 12:05 AM

if i had money my TII would have a RB exhaust instead i got a N1 catback for $200 so i can't complain....

McGarnikle 10-09-2002 02:50 AM

Its kinda hard to get rotors to have a deep exaust noise :rice:

Dragon 10-09-2002 03:19 AM

I built my own exaust that sounds sweet and pretty deep... I think the best sounding production exause I've heard is the JIC Bullet exaust

Dragon 10-09-2002 03:19 AM

Or the RE-Amemia dolphin tail.. but your talking much $$$$$$$$$

Maybe, but mine does sound like a deep, bassy pissed off rx-7. I need to upload my 2 files to vosko's servers so you can hear what I'm saying.

isamu 10-09-2002 01:36 PM

The Mazdatix/racingbeat on my n/a fc is pretty deep sounding. Even when you really get on it the sound is loud but, well you know its hard to describe just what it sounds like. My brother described the sound as incredibley similar to a BMW motorcycle with opposing cylinders or something like that.

t88kid 10-09-2002 02:09 PM

I like the way my greddy sp sounds. I have a 4 inch exhaust all the way to the back

I'll get a video of mine to see if you like it. I need to get my webserver back up and running......... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/violin.gif

bigtime 10-09-2002 02:16 PM

j9fd3s 10-09-2002 11:51 PM

i might be able to come up with some video of the re twin dolphin setup, the car dyno's similar numbers to yours gordon, so it should be pretty apples to apples. we also have uncorked 20b on the dyno too. i need to geet gd to get off his ass....

Use some Magna flow 2.5" muffers at the rear they might work, Its hard to say

With the 1st gen car's that i do exhausts on I Have a 3" dump pipe and just past the the gearbox mount I put One of our Hand made Resonators on it, (www.selectmaz.com.au) and then over the diff to the magna flow, it sound deep and there is no chainsaw noise but we have put modified RB muffler's which flow 3" on the back and sound near standard at idle but have a nice deep sound at full noise and not restrictive at all, thanks

Turbo II 10-10-2002 01:16 PM

get a flowmaster, it will get ya laid

94touring 10-10-2002 05:08 PM

I wouldn't be concerned with the small appearance of the M2. I was concerned with that at first too, but remember you don't need huge exhaust tips to have power. You have your 3" pipe flowing into two 3" tips....plenty of flow. I had the apexi n1 dual, which was way too loud without the silencers and noticable slower with the silencers in. However when I installed the m2 dual tip I felt no decrease in power....at least nothing noticable. If you lose 5hp who cares anyways, it looks good, sounds good, so it must be good.

r_xplicit 10-11-2002 12:21 PM

gordon,

like t88kid said, the greddy SP is nice. i have one as well, and ir is very throaty. my good friend brian recently got the HKS carbon-ti exhaust, and it sounds very similar, but even deeper at idle and low throttle...

louis

grngtcfd3s 10-11-2002 12:38 PM

i have the racing beat and it's nice. but i'm thinking of going with a HKS. anyone want to buy my rb???

vosko 10-11-2002 01:22 PM

i LOVE my RB........never really heard any complaints about it...

1988RedT2 10-11-2002 01:29 PM

That's because their screams were drowned out by that raspy drone! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png :bigok:

Silver Ninety Three 10-12-2002 12:35 AM

I like my Greddy SP. In my opinion it sounds alot better than the other stuff I've heard while keeping the noise level reasonable. Vosko, I thought your RB was pretty raspy. Sounded like all the noise was comming from under the car instead of out the tailpipes. The HKS carbon is alot louder than the sp. It makes a world of difference once you get a midpipe. T&R runs an sp on one of their 10 second race cars so it must flow plenty.

vosko 10-12-2002 12:47 AM

yeah my FD sounds like a first gen LOL

gmonsen 10-12-2002 01:27 AM

ok, does the HKS titanium sound deep and bassy and flow well? it looks like it should and it costs a arm and a leg. also, what about the kakimoto gt titanium? i wouldn't have thought the m2 would flow enough, since its 3 inch all the way back? it sounds good, though. i heard it on shawn's car last weekend and it sounded pretty good. looks stock, too. gordo's going gonzo... got to get a new exhaust.

i know what you mean, my fc has been together for 3 months, that longer than its ever gone without a different exhaust (ive had 5-6 different ones, the rb twice)

mike

94touring 10-12-2002 08:43 PM

Gonzo....I'd seriously consider at least trying the m2 or racing beat dual, I bet you will be very satisfied. If the opportunity arises, test your current exhaust vs. the m2 on the dyno. I bet the difference in power would only be a few horspower at best.

r_xplicit 10-12-2002 09:21 PM

yes the HKS flows well. if i could, i would let you hear brians car. he can get you the exhaust if you like. it would not cost you an arm and a leg......i think that he paid around 400 dealer cost.....soooo.....5,000.00 would be about right... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/devil.gif

Toy 10-14-2002 01:35 PM

i'm using a JIC Spec90 exhaust with a borla xr-1 in midpipe. it definately isn't as loud as most of the others i've heard...

vosko 10-14-2002 06:47 PM

I've been looking for a replacement exhaust since I went single. The GT35/40 exhaust manifold + Greddy PE ends up sounding too "tinny" for my taste.

Torn between the Greddy SP and JIC Bullet. Is having something different (than anyone else around here) that you like a little better worth 2x the price.? (JIC Bullet v/s SP).

K

Silver Ninety Three 10-18-2002 02:33 PM

Sp sounds very nice in my opinion. I borrowed my friend's power extreme once because I was trying to see if my sp was blown out. It sounded pretty raspy and I decided to get another sp. On his car it sounded good though with stock cat and twins. I've never heard the JIC.

nocab72 10-18-2002 02:37 PM

yup, with stock twins it sounded great, but it don't no more. :( Jason has the SP on his T78 and it sounds nice @ idle. He has a JIC in the shop, maybe he will let me "try it out".

k

jspecracer7 10-18-2002 06:03 PM

there's a Vid of me driving around with a midpipe and later with a borla xr-1 midpipe with my exhaust being the JIC bullet type 1 exhaust....If I can find it.

vosko 10-18-2002 06:06 PM

van = tool LOL
