i have an 89 gtu, my friend has an 86, it smells like my car is running richer than his, he has no cats, my car has the orginal main cat. We both have headers. How can i correct this problem? My car also fails emmision test's horribly. I dont think its just me but these rotary's get some bad gas mileage.

You should be getting a little more than 20 MPG average on a NA. It almost sounds like your injectors are stuck open. Have you tried running injector cleaner through it?

yes i have ran injector cleaner through it 2 times, by stuck open do you mean even when the car is shut off? Because it never floods. I should really get them professionally cleaned but have no time to.

Yes, they would be stuck when the car is not running. Big problem on RX7s. Has your car alwyas done this, like since you bought it, or just recently?

From what i remember it has always done this, When i first bought it i thought that was just the way they ran. Another thing is when i had hollowed cat's on it i would backfire like it was going out of style , But my friends 86 has hollowed cat's and his never back fires , and that also lead me into thinking that my car was running richer than normal. But if the injectors were stuck open or "leaky", wouldent the car flood when you turn if off and try restarting it?

Yes it would. You may have upgraded injectors in it then since it has alwyas been like this.

The afm on my s5 was shot and ran really rich as well, it wouldn't hurt to check that out too.

Thats true. A number of sensors will make the car run rich.

How can you test the meter? Would it throw a code if it was bad?
