I cut mine down with a hack saw and then just ran a die over it to run the threads down further. I didn't see any reason not to keep the stock boot. I even bothered to snap these pictures off for ye.

where did you hack it?

I don't understand this. You are not change the wieght's height or center of gravity, nor exchanging a longer base for a shoter shaft. I think you just have a shorter shaft. This may be more comfortable but I don't see how it shortens the pendulum swing of the shifter.

You need to re-read my original post.. MY SHIFTER IS A MAZDASPEED, not stock shifter. I cut down my mazdaspeed short shifter. Try to read the entire thread before you start replying to one particular post.

Think of the shifter as a triangle - Position 1 (side A), Position 2 (side B) and a straight line between the two positions at the top of the shifter (side C)

So, if you leave the angle AB the same, and shorten side A and B.. Side C is automatically shorter. The triangle would be similar, but smaller by whatever percentage you cut off.

I took about an extra 2" off the top then re-threaded what was left.
