Ok guys, just curious as to what you all have to say. I have been searching through these forums, and wanted to hear what you all have to say in regards to a cheap rotary swap. I'd like to get a project car, with the whole price being kept under $4,000, and have a fun weekend car with a rotary engine. I was thinking of a 12A swap into a VW bug, or possibly a swap into a Datsun 510.



So what do you guys think? Any other cheap alternatives? Good links to help with the project? Estimated price?



Any and all replies will be greatly appreciated.

i think the most fun project vehicle that you could do is..... what i'm building right now.



13B powered Sandrail/dune buggy. Uses all VW suspension parts, and can get a prefabbed frame for a grand or so....

 

The problem with older vehicles is you end up spending on just fixing stuff.



Find a '89 or '90 240SX with a blown engine and swap in a TII motor or . . . what about a Porsche 924 with a bridge-ported 12A.

wot about dropping a 12 or 13b carbed but ported(unless u got money for a turbo) into a 1978-80 rwd mazda 323 hatch or wagon, basic swap u will need an rx3 crossmember

 

here in New Zealand its wot every1 who wants a rotor but has little money does. my mates car has a series 3 1st gen lsd rear end and i think it went in real easy.

 

a 13B or 12A into a bug is a pretty easy swap. just need the trans adapter, strengthened gears, and you would probably want to have some motor mounts fab'd. But, the hardest part is the rad, the piping and getting air to it and all of that nonsense.

I always wanted to buy an older 1st ger Miata and swap a 13B N/A or 13BT into it. The initial car cost would be cheap because you could fin a not running Miata.



The Locost is a really cool idea too.

 

350bhp rotary in a 600kg locost = 583bhp/tonne (these are VERY conservative figures - mine will be a fully fledged road car and won't weigh more than 500kgs, and we all know what rotaries are capable of). A Ferrari Enzo weighs around 1400kgs IIRC and has 660bhp which equates to 471bhp/tonne. Speaks for itself.
