Anyone have any estimates as to how much 12A or 13B swap into a VW bug would cost? Also, anyone sure if the 13B mounts up with the VW engine mounts for sure? I know the 12A does.

Also, I'm guessing those LoCost cars aren't the safest things in the world. I haven't really heard of them before, and did a quick search. So they are a kit car, but you have to weld the frame and such yourself?

A locost may not be the safest car in the world, but they're a lot safer than a bug - the chassis is able to take an awful lot of stress and the only place that you're prone is the sides, but chances are in a side on impact the axle's will take the energy anyway.

Yes you do have to weld the chassis yourself (unless you buy a kit), but it's quite easy - the beauty of the chassis is you don't need any jigs, so you can have it made in a week or two. If you do go for a kit I would reccommend either http://www.luegosportscars.com or http://www.mkengineering.co.uk both do away with the dreadful live axle and are based on a Ford Sierra, meaning you could use a Mercur xr4ti as a donor, and both are run by top blokes who will be more than happy to ship one over for not too much.

Either way I reccommend you get the book, all this may sound like a lot of work, but by the time you're done it won't have taken any longer than a bug transplant, and you'll have a far better racer when you're done: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...=books&n=507846

I actually got a Lotus Super 7 model for Christmas, but I haven't had time to put it together yet. I plan on getting that book as well. This sounds like an interesting idea.

wot about dropping a 12 or 13b carbed but ported(unless u got money for a turbo) into a 1978-80 rwd mazda 323 hatch or wagon, basic swap u will need an rx3 crossmember

I recently bought a 1980 GLC minto-fresh 58k original miles grandma owned

$500 for the car, built a 4port 12a sidehousing with 13b '89 "a" internals and MONSTER bridge ported it. T2 trans, 750holley, 1875lb car preaty quick, never hit it gas big time yet, weak axles/rearend scare me, soon to put 9inch ford rearend and minitubs plus a full cage. I also have a fogger system to install prolly only shoot a 100-150shot though..As said, i used rx3 crossmember BOLTS IN. only real car mod i did was drilling a hole for the shifer, was an automatic car. And also installing the stickshift pedel assembly. I have like $2k total into this project :P

Ill post some pics if someone wants to see

Edward

Post em if you got em.

Yeah I would definetly beef up the rear end before doing anything else.....especially with the spray.
