Hello everyone. I recently purchased an 04 Rx8 for my wife. it has 77k on it and in great condition. I am experiencing wheelhop on initial take off at WOT. Is this a common charactristic of this model and is there anything i can do to help elliminate this concern. Thanks Rob

Its not a ford, dont launch it like a ford. Rev happy motor + light flywheel means the clutch requires finesse. Try holding the rpm's at 5k, and slipping the clutch until the speed catched up with the rpm's. Its not a drag car where you can just drop the clutch at a given rpm and run good times, it takes real skill to get a car like that off the line in a hurry.

Not to be picky, but I'm confused. You say you "purchased an 04 RX8 for (your) wife" but it is you who are "experiencing wheelhop on initial take off at WOT." If your wife isn't having the same problem, I'm not sure I'd worry about it.
I'm with MS7 on this one. It takes a good bit of skill to launch any M/T car, but more so with a rotary. But I wouldn't spend a lot of time practicing, as you'll probably just break something. Ask yourself "Why did I buy this car?" If the answer is "for my wife", then leave it alone unless she is having the same problem.
If you really want to turn your RX8 into a drag car, you could try some drag radials or slicks back there, but remember that instead of wheelspin, you'll be increasing the stress on other parts of the car, like the clutch and motor mounts.

you should see my wife drive. very heavy right foot and last minute breaks. i dont think there will be a carbon buildup problem with this engine. i just sold her 2000cougar to upgrade to the rx8. could not keep break rotrs on it. she was able to warp the rotors every couple months.

Hey Rob, if the toe of the driven wheels changes during acceleration, the grip of the tire must be changing. Wheel hop is a result of this change in grip. Here is the sequence of events:
1.) Acceleration begins with good grip.
2.) The wheels move forward, toe changes, and available grip is reduced. Wheelspin occurs.
3.) During wheelspin, acceleration is very small. The wheels move back again, toe changes back, and the tire regains grip.
4.) Acceleration begins again, and the process repeats itself.
You can adjust some of the settings for get rid off. you must have to go to a very good auto repair shop for minimise it to 0. I suggest you a best auto repair shop i.e. Rose Brothers Garage. They are really helpful. Rose Brothers Garage also offers a wide range of auto repair services including Oil, Filter & Lube, A/C Service and Repairs, Brake System Repairs,2 and 4 Wheel alignments, Tire Sales & Service, Factory-Recommended Service Intervals,Heating & Cooling, Electrical System and computer repair, Transmission Repair & Replacement, Steering & Suspension.
