They put a kit on an RX8 looks pretty ok.

I will have pics later today.

rx7machine 08-25-2003 11:09 PM

So, is this kit made specifically for the RX-8 or will it work with the FD?

JT-Imports 08-25-2003 11:16 PM

rx7machine--You sure are busy today. hehe Well the turbo seems to sit in front of the engine by the pics I saw, but im going to try to get some others to clarify, but no of course it wont work on the FD hehe

DRFT 08-25-2003 11:54 PM

HURRY! get some pics out to us! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/happy.png

I'm busy today.. Well, I love nopistons.com https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png I want to see some pics too.

Jims5543 08-26-2003 07:47 AM

I have a question. In the past if you wanted to put a turbo on a n/a rx-7 everyone would laugh at you and tell you the compression was too high to effectivly use a turbo.

As I undestand it the RX-8 has even higher compression. So how is a turbo going to work with it. I would imagine you would have to run minimal boost.

I wonder if enyone has tried putting lower compression rotors in the renesis yet?

180hp@noboost 08-26-2003 07:55 AM

You cant put lower compression rotors in the rx-8. Well unless you have good tooling to cut out the blow by ring. You are going to have to lower the compression on the stock rotors https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png .

neomicro 08-26-2003 08:03 AM

Any numbers yet on power gains? Pricing?

that's doable, to an extent. it depends on the casting thickness there

i think low compression rotors are STUPID

its very simple high compression low boost

low boost high compression

you get one or the other unless you want high compression and high boost you need C16 all the time

a turbo renesis at 10psi of boost on a T04 should be more power than a regular 13B so around 400hp

rx7machine 08-26-2003 12:49 PM

So you really wouldn't need that big of a turbo at all for the renesis..

I am not knocking the kit. Just asking an honest question. It seems I was mis-informed in the past.

So you can turbo an N/A you just have to run low boost. Good to know. I might talk my bro into adding a turbo to his GXL.

Would you say 7-10 PSI is about the limit of boost on a n/a engine.

i personally know of a turbo 6port n/a car with a T04... runs great no problems he just can't go over 10psi... that thing moves too! i think people just like to repeat what other people say instead of finding out for themselves... ah well

Jims5543 08-26-2003 05:06 PM

Good to know. I try not to listen to other people too much. Like when I was doing my swap. Everybody was telling me to go Haltech and to go with the Greddy FMIC. I just didn't like them so I did my own thing.

When you think about it it makes sense. Lower boost should work. A 300 HP RX-8.....hmmm.. now you have my attention.

rx7machine 08-26-2003 05:15 PM

Now we just have to wait until someone turbocharges one so we can find out if it works good.

it should be 300 @ 5psi lol

JT-Imports 08-26-2003 10:49 PM

Sorry guys here in the info.

TD06-18G.... So its pretty small. At least its not a TD05 hehe

Its on an RX8 as we speak, but I started reading more since there isnt a price.

Sorry though guys, it wasnt meant to be BS, and its not. I just got a little excited..hehe

Anyway, Trust put the kit on. At .4kg Boost they are getting 50hp extra out of the motor. Sure does cut down on the clutter in the engine bay.

I forgot my camera at work, so I will get pics tomorrow for sure. I will have my hook-up call Trust too for more info!

Its time for pics...this thread is losing it... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...closedeyes.gif

FikseRxSeven 08-28-2003 01:59 AM

imagine the low end power of a high compression engine that is boosted to 10lbs? a 13b with some torque https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

FikseRxSeven 08-28-2003 02:00 AM

also, from what i have read..... the rotors are interchangable with previous rotary engine rotors... so if youreally want low compression they're easily available

DRFT 08-28-2003 08:34 AM

The way the new rotors are desgined is they hold unburned gas inside and release it in the next intake cycle...i read that in the the new road and track or car and driver RX8 magazine they sent me.

I guess that was for fuel economy...

they redesigned the ports so that unburnned fuel is brought back into the intake.

they redesigned the rotors to be light weight, but it should be the same shape as the previous rotors.

Where are the pics at Jason? I am eagerly awaiting! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

You said an extra 50HP, what was the total HP at the wheels?

DRFT--Thanks for the input hehe

Digisan---Im working on it man. I wanted some better ones to post then what i have. Its a busy month this month, so Im working as quick as I can, trust me. I will try like HELL to do it tonight as soon as I get to JT

sorry poor attempt at humor. rx8 power (180rwhpish) + 50flywheel = 192 rwhp? haha?

I get, and it is funny on one hand on the other hand I own one so it's pretty sad. I don't know if I will be keeping my 8, I may get a full refund if Mazda decides they can't fix it! Right now I have a letter that says I can give it back for a full refund or take free servicing, however I don't want either, I want 207HP at the wheels as stated on rotarynews.com.

Man I would agree with you there.. Looks like a totally different set-up without the engine cover on there.

Digisan---Yeah I hear you, I want to get some others, but im not sure how much Trust will give me, since my ties arent strong with them, but my buddy orders a lot of shite from them, so I should be able to get a real picture hehe

What is the compression of the new rx8 engine? 10.1:1??
