This RX-8 is my first rotary so I don't know if this is all normal or not. If I'm driving with a spirited pace, I begin to hear a scratching sound close to redline. Nothing's effected, no loss of speed or power. No other sounds. If another RX-8 owner can confirm this is normal or happens the same way on their car, I'll sleep easier. It's been doing this for quite a while and nothing's gone wrong.

I know when the 3rd set of injectors come on (7250rpm) it is pretty noisy. Well at least in my car.

I had some knock at around that RPM...it sounded kinda like scratching....it's weird..I can't exactly describe the sound, but I know for a fact it was detonation......it happened while I was in canada, all they had was some no-name 89 octane crap, and it was really hot an in heavy stop and go traffic.....perfect for detonation. It happened once and I babied for the next 2 days until I refilled with some 93 in New York.....never happened again.

Sounds exactly like what's happening with mine. It can't be detonation for me because all we have is good ole' 93 octane.

Nope...haven't heard that in mine

Although, it seems as if I have a RPM dependent clicking noise...sounds like its coming from behind the dash....??

And when I got my car back from the dealer the other day...Whenever in cold weather...my belts have a slight squeeking noise...that pisses me off...but oh well, nothing stays new forever!

I've gotten that clicking noise... thought it might be the oil metering pump test that runs every 10th start-up or so. I haven't been able to figure it out. Very random and annoying.

You guys are starting to sound like that other forum...worrying about every little minute noise...hahah

FWIW...my car doesn't make any abnormal noises from idle to fuel cut...just regular rotary shriek.....

Not a minute noise when a transmission had to be replaced in my car.

Not quite...

I would just consider myself to be a perfectionist...I know the difference between a "regular" noise and something that's a little outta the ordinary.

The transmission on these cars has been known to be a lil flaky.

yeah, I rememeber you telling me that...I guess you are like me and havent figured it out yet.
