Rx-8 Dyno #'s
I just read a ton of threads on the RX-8 Forum. Firstly it is obvious that it is related to the RX7Club there are 3 kinds of people in there. Those who truly know their **** but think their **** doesnt stink. Those who dont know **** but can bullshit well and create an aura of knowing ****. Those who dont know **** and admit it but are being mislead by the bullshitters.
After reading for an hour I have one last thing to say then I will wait until Mazda says something or someone throws down 210RWHP.
I wanted to buy a RX-8 preferably a Mazdaspeed addition. I would never buy the fist cars off the line in fear that they are a mess. I needed a new car so I bought a CooperS (contemplating the JCW kit) to keep for 2 years until hopefully the Mazdaspeed RX-8 is out. As of right now I have no interest in the RX-8 especially in light of all the "problems" people are having with them.
I do believe the RX-8 is pretty quick as it is right now but I think it should be quicker. Its 0-60 times are not very impressive for a 250HP - 2800 lb. car the dodge SRT-4 kills it by half a second 0-60 and by 1.5 seconds in the 1/4. I know the RX-8 corners well but you need some ***** to get to the corners quickly. I know I Autocross and was amazed how much faster my 7 was everywhere after getting another 50 RWHP.
I will compare this car to the RX-7 bacause that is all Madza Corp has been doing since they got some running prototypes on the road. Have you seen all the PR videos of the 8 and the 7 racing on a road course. Mazda is comparing them so I will.
They are supposed to be race inspired sports cars with 4 seats. Have you seen the print ads or the comercials. Thay are not advertising them as grocery getters.
I have my Mini to play with now and suspect I will be keeping it a lot longer than expected. At least I have my 400 HP RX-7 to play with.
Product loyalty is not an excuse to buy a car that is not what it is claimed to be.

People at RX-8 forum are trying to come up with ideas, the idea is simple, the car doesnt make the power it was advertised to have.
Thats the answer right there, do you think there is a simple
reason why the cars arent making the power? Maybe someone
forgot to tell the assembly line people that the 6 speed cars get more
power, thats about all I can think of. Nothing is sticking, and nothing is failing to operate, the cars just dont have the power they were supposed to have, unless that real fancy converter on it is robbing
50 horsepower.

thank you for that reply rob, finally a good reply, free from mazda bashing, and here to make a decent and "educated" guess on the RX-8 low power problem.
we all know it's down on power, the question that now exists is why? what's causing the problem and did mazda know about it before hand. has their trustworthyness been forfeited for the sake of the almighty dollar? are they going to try to get out of this with some crappy reply like "projected hp is 250, real hp is a different story".
next week will tell. if mazda did lie and they new the rx-8 was down on power yet continued to market it as 250 hp to make money, let me say my '87 TII might be the last mazda i ever own. i love rotaries, but i love honestly and customer loyalty more.
however, i support mazda for now and will give them the benefit of the doubt, innocent till prove guilty, although the evidence is mounting.

Okay, let me clear some things up since everyone seems to be bashing the RX-8 and mazda. The reason that you are seeing such low HP on the dyno is because the ECU is programmed for break-in mode for a certain number of miles, such as 3,000 or so. Once the engine hits 6250 rpms, the power ports are supposed to open for high rpm power. Well, this has been somewhat disabled as the ECU just dumps fuel at open loop limiting high rpm horsepower. There it is. Deal with it for the first couple of thousand miles and then get back on the dyno.
