My brother go to dyno a RX-8 last week. He says it put down 172 RWHP. Needless to say the owner was pissed and was heading over to the Mazda dealership for an explanation.

Anyone else had the chance to dyno a RX-8 yet?

BTW - This was the manual 6 speed model not the diluted Auto.

I am pretty disapointed. After my brother told me about it we were talking and if you really think about it it seems almost crazy that Mazda got close to 100 more HP out of the Renesis engine over a N/A Series 5 13B. Think of the sick bridgeporting you need to do to get 250 hp out of a N/A series 5 engine. How did Mazda get 100 more HP out of some side ports.

ah so it was a 6 speed? there was a lot of confusion about that.

as far as the hp gain goes the renisis doubles the exhaust port size, and opens the intake earlier, its also spinning faster

I was pretty disapointed when the dealer told me. I guess only cause I really dont care for 6spd that much.

I thought those things were meant to do 250rwhp, or is that 250hp at the motor

Mazda Claims 250 flywheel HP. That means we should see about 210-215 at the wheels. 172 at the wheels = 200 flywheel HP.

I just want to know if this dude has a dog car. Hopefully others will dyno and we can see some better #'s. Right now I am very unimpressed with the 8. I am definatly waiting to see what aftermarket upgrades come along. I am anxious to see what Mazdaspeed makes.

How many miles are on the motor? Whats the compression look like? Using all new seals and housings it should obviously be damn good, but you never know.

Its starting to make sense now. If you look closley at the Mazda RX-8 literature you will see an asterick* next to the horsepower figure. If you look at the tiny print below it says and I qoute "PROVISIONAL TARGET". In other words they are saying they are shooting for 250 HP but might not get there. Looks like they missed.

I want to see some more Dyno results. Anyone? Please? If you are in South Florida I will pay for you to do a pull at Pettits. In West Palm Beach.
