I hope I'm just paranoid. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.gif well holding off on the aftermarket stuff till after the recall isnt a bad idea, but other than that you're being paranoid. out of the 60ish cars we've recalled, there was 1 that was close to failing.... mazda says a 1-2% failure rate, and for us that means maybe we change 2 engines, which is better than the fd's were.... |

I hope I'm just paranoid. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.gif The one thing my service dept. did say, was that any pulley on the car, that is aftermarket, depedning on which dealership you go to, can land you in the voided warranty club quickly. But we have had luck with guys still getting the recall work done, while having aftermarket pulleys. And to me, there is not enough gain with those, to be worth the trouble you might face down the road. |
I drive an FC and love RX7's not much of an RX8 fan but I don't think most of these problems have to do with the cars themselves as much as the drivers. I drive around and see alot of RX8's. I work at a Nissan dealership right next to a Mazda dealership and I see at least 3 RX8's towed in a day. I decided to investigate this and ask the techs and advisor's and they were saying most people abuse them and don't change the oil regularly. I was astonished when I saw some of the maintenance records. I am not saying this is the case for all of them but people just need to learn basic maintenance. And trust me we get plenty of problems with Nissan's also. It isn't just Mazda either i worked at a Honda dealership and the new Si's had like 6 recalls within 2 months of being released. I really don't know what the point of me posting this was. Just saying it isn't entirely Mazda's fault and all car lines have problems.

A lot of the people buying RX-8's, buy them for the looks and the functionality of having what appears to be a sports car, but really is a car with four doors, and the ability to seat 4. Service techs have commented to me before, that the majority of problems with the RX-8, come from negligence, and not taking care o fit. It is a rotary, and therefore requires special care. most people are not keen to doing such things, and as a result have problems. |
yeah most of our rx8 customers decline the services too. the mazda 3 and protege owners are much much better about that. i sorta wonder if its percieved cost, but the 3 and the 8 cost the same to service...

well the problem is they think it is a Honda where they hear these stories of "Oh I don't change my oil for 10,000 miles at a time and it runs just fine" they think since it is a rotary that is even better than a Honda(I have yet to see a Honda do that by the way) IMHO I think it is just ignorance of most RX8 owners.(nothing intended towards any RX8 owners on here)
