I've had my 8 for about 3 years now

 

okay im gonna take tht q/a from ya now.....okay so on the interstate yesterday my 8 was running great then all of a sudden the engine light started flashing then I lost power and the rpms started going down even though my foot was on the gas....I pulled over and lifted the hood and the engine was smoking....I couldn't tell exactly where the smoke was coming from....any ideas?

 

Most of the time the flashing "cel" is a misfire.. Smoking, not sure exactly.. Did you get the car checked out before you bought it? Eg. Compression test ... A lot of people have no idea what's under the hood of our cars, let alone maintain them. How is it running now? And are there any engine mods?

thanks but the guy we got it from was an idiot and didn't know when he changed nothing so im guessing he didn't change nothing.... so I think im just gonna get a new motor put in it...so I can know when everything has been changed...cus im pretty sure this engine thts in it is a money pit.lol

 

You should at least try a compression test, plugs, wires, and coils. A dealer or good mechanic can tackle the compression and the last 3 are a DIY and fairly simple.. It would save you ALOT.. As long as the compression is good you shouldn't have a whole lot to worry about.

 

I took your advice and took it to the mazda dealer and the only thing wrong with I is the cat!!!woohoo!!and It caused the cel light and loss of power cus the engine didn't have enough air after 5500 rpms!....they quoted me $1500!!!!!...I was like ....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!......t hen went to auto zone and got it for $200 and found a good mechanic thts gonna put it in for $50.....wow they are bad about price gouging!...and the anti freeze smell wasn't anything serious!...its a little crack in the back of the reservoir...woot!

 

That's awesome man! You should look on rx8 club and see what things you should be changing and the things that might need maintenance . Eg. Coils, Plugs, and wires. You should see some performance gains, just by getting it cleaned up and some good parts installed.

and yea im just taking step by step cus if I do everthing at 1nce my wallet will break.lol
