going that rich is really abnormal...dont know what the problem was, the MAF should control the fuel based on air flow it see...anyway putting the filter back in the stock box is probably better any way that way it wont suck hot air from around the engine.

 

There are two metal screens inside the oem air box. Take one out and put it in the new intake right before the MAF. That should fix your problem 100%.
