I am looking for a basic 3rd gen right now to start an autocross (and possibly drifting) project car.

Looking to spend around $6-9k if possible. Color is not an issue, just mainly looking for a good body and clean title. Needs to be running as it will be a daily driver for about a month or two. And please, no automatics.... (why did they make an RX-7 with anything but a manual transmission???)

Email me at digix@digix.us or you can send me a pm here.

Thanks in advance!

I am really hoping you can find one for that price. A word to the wise; you get what you pay for when you buy an Rx-7. If you are willing to spend up to 9K beware that the engine might be going out with major issues. As soon as apex seals start going out you might as well just pull out the motor and get it fixed. Depending on how mechanically inclined you are to rotary engines, this might be the way to go and rebuild the engine yourself. If not, a decent rebuild will cost you around 4K. (Which in total is 13K for an Rx7)

A couple of buying tips, ask for a compression test. 6.0 is the minimal a rotor should be and even at that point, it won't last long. (My recent compression test showed 7.4 on rotor 1 and 6.8 on rotor 2 = should last about 40,000 more miles)

Make sure all the recalls where done on the vechile. If the person does not have the records, do a carfax. Believe me, it's worth it.

Make sure the aftermarket things where done correctly. FD engines are very tempermental and tuning them wrong is a disaster waiting to happen.

Other than that, good luck. Have you tried looking on www.rotarytraderonline.com ?? It's a Rx-7 and rx-8 adds only.

And yeah, I agree...why did they make rx-7's in automatic? It's like the STI...they didn't bother making it an automatic...

thanks for the tips..... and yeah, im kind of a n00b when it comes to the rotary at this point and a full rebuild would be good learning experience. i would more than likely be doing that anyways as im the type that wants to get it done right the first time and not cut any corners. and yeah, i have heard and read quite a bit about the little "perks" of these engines....

and i will defintely be browsing around rotarytrader......

thanks again!
