I know they are fast cars that and the 98 Mustang's just arent that great...
Though it is understandable how he started catching up to you. though you did have around 25-35hp on him. 98's only had around 235hp but if it is an auto it is much worse. Ford didnt get the auto's down until 99. I had a run in with a 2 door 235hp V6 Legend when I had just gotten my GT. Plus the kid had exhaust pulleys intake and some other crap and I did not beat him until the otherside of 115mph....
But very sweet cars! Pretty damn fast! More comfortable than my stang too! lol
