Fs - 1972 Pontiac Gto In Upstate Ny
#1
Yep, Its finally time to commit to selling it.
The history on it is;
Two owner southern car. My father bought it from the original owner back in '72 when the first owner sold it due to speeding troubles.
Purchased from Swope Pontiac in Louisville, KY and driven daily by my father back and forth to Fort Knox while he was in the army during the 70s.
Then when he and my mother moved here the car was put in storage for 12 years getting started every so often to keep it running good.
Then it was put back on the road around 1993 where my father drove it around on weekends.
After that, about a year later I was given the car when I was 15 to start learning how to take care of a car before I turned 16. The week before I turned 16,
my father rear ended a cavalier doing 5 when his foot slipped off the clutch.
Only Minor fender and bumper damage was done to the GTO, but the Cavalier was totalled. Amazing what big block torque and 70s era bumpers
can do to '90s econobox sheetmetal.
So then I finally started driving it. Short part of it is, already knew how to drive stick from dirtbike riding in a way, so never made the car buck for its life learning.
RELIGIOUS oil changes made at 3,000 or before with 10w40 Castrol GTX and a K&N filter each change.
Then around 135,000 miles, I decided the old 400 big block needed something more. So the engine was pulled and the modifications which I will get to below
were installed. I should note I did not touch the bottom end of the engine, so it does use some oil due to the piston rings getting old.
As long as you dont mind checking the oil as often as you do with a rotary running in top shape, you'll be fine.
So that puts us where the car sits right now, at 160,000 miles, and me not having the funds or time for it. I want it to go to somebody who will at least
do the minimal body work it needs, give it a fresh coat of paint, and take good care of it, if not do a full frame off restoration.
Now for the details, *phew*;
Engine
400CI big block
RA IV spec cam by comp cams
Heads have received a three angle valve job and the valve seals replaced with hardened versions for unleaded gas use
ARP studs
Crower double roller timing chain
Edelbrock Performer intake manifold
Holley 750 vacuum secondary carb with manual choke and silver finish
K&N 14" air cleaner filter
Drivetrain/Rolling Stock
3 speed Muncie M-20
Clutch replaced at 150k with a LUK clutch. Flywheel also was not hot spotted and in great shape.
Rear end is a 10 bolt 3.07:1 open diff
Brakes are 4 wheel non power assist drum (great for drag, bad for everything else)
Wheels and tires are the 14" factory wheels with 225/70 Dunlop GT Qualifiers that have 85% tread left.
Body and Interior
Body wise, it is in ok shape. The hood has a small rust through in front of the hood scoupes, plus the fenders behind each tire
at the bottom are rusting out. Other than that, there isnt any rust, and the underside most imporatntly, is immaculate save
for being dirty and having very light surface rust in a few areas.
Paint wise, it was a southern car, and never had a repaint so, its faded. It does still look pretty nice when washed and waxed though.
And interior wise, it looks great, excepting the drivers seat is worn out and cracked, the rear deck under the glass has had the
black coating flake off so its bare particle board, and there are three small rips in the headliner.
*whew* so thats every, and I mean EVERY, detail on the car!
The classic book value in present condition for this car is anywhere from $5-8,000 but I need to sell this car so I am going to ask for $6,000
If shipping is needed, I'd prefer the buyer to cover that, but we can deal on that too. Especially if its someone thats really going to take good care of this car.
Attached below are a few pictures. I have plenty more upon request.
